Default NTLDR Missing

Ok, I am replacing one of my hard drives with a larger one. THe one I am replacing is my mp3 drive. The only problem is that for whatever ****-eyed reason Windows set it up as the "system" drive when i installed xp pro. The windows folder and everything is on my second drive. Is there any way to fix this so i can remove the drive without re-installing windows?

ummm is the new drive set as master or slave? If it is set as master, that is probably your problem.

I do know that when I upgraded one of my drives a long while back XP did the same NTLDR missing screen but once I hit enter to reboot it would load windows. For me it ended up being the whole master/slave issue. What it was doing was trying to load system files off the drive set as master (should have been slave) because it did have some backup system files on it from some tweaking experiments.

So long story short, check the master/slave jumper

no.

Delete the windows directory on your old drive, unplug it, intall windows on the new drive.

I am assuming you want windows running on your new drive. if not, do the same thign but switch the drives.

No, im pretty sure it results from trying to use 2 hdds with xp installs on both on the same controller. At least thats what i figured out from this happeneing to 2 of my friends. MY solution is tested, works.

Also ive heard of this error coming up when you switch from an AMD setup to an Intel setup, but i dont think that is the case here.

MDK if you noticed, I said that I had system files on both drives and it was reading them off the incorrect drive. once i switched em up, booted and deleted the backuped files all was well

Umm..your all kinda sorta there i think...

Here is the way the hard drives are set up now:
The drive im replacing (27gb) is on the motherboard primary ide, set to master.
The drive that is staying (with the windows directory on it) (100gb) is on my Promise ATA card (mobo doesn't support ata100, which the drive is) on the primary set to master

what i want to have it as...
the 100 giger will stay as is..
the next 160 giger will go to the promise card on secondary as primarty (ata133..again mobo no supporty).

I really don't want to have to reinstall windows though..so while your solution might work MDK..i don't like it (plus most of my software is now as school..and im home a lil while londer before i go back)
