Default Issues

Ok so here we go. I've been having problems with my system locking up. Like watching a movie, playing a game, whatever it just locks up I can't do a thing but reboot. Now I have figured it was many a different thing, old hard drives, bad video card, bad sound card, you name it I have replaced it recently. So far my specs are
DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra D
AMD FX 55
2g G.Skill ram
160gb Maxtor SATA boot
500gb Maxtor SATA storage
Shappire X1600Pro
Sound Blaster Audigy SE
Now everything under the processor is new. I dont understand the problem. I have even switched operating systems from Vista Ultimate to XP Pro to Ubuntu.

Please any help you can offer, I'm about to pull my hair out of my head!!!!!!

Edit: I forgot I ran MemTest from my BIOS it showed up nothing, ram is good. I also bought a new PSU as well so its not that.

I have just changed cases. I bought one off of mnpctech, but it was doing this before I switched the case, so I know its not that. Cooling is a possibility, but it doesn't do it all the time when it is under a load. Sometimes I'll be gaming for a good hour with no problems then bam! Or not even that, I can just be surfing the web and it will lock up. I think as my next thing, I'm going to buy a new motherboard and cpu. I was just hopping ya'll might be able to offer some insight into something I might be missing.

As another idea I'm going to look into getting some more thermal paste because I'm out then taking it apart and resetting the CPU with new thermal grease and the fan as well.

Edit: I almost forgot, I have also updated the BIOS as well to see if that was the issue, but nothing.

If you can get your hands on Everest Ultimate , it has a stress test that not only stress's the CPU but the cash as well ............... try that.

I would also , try seeing if your ram is compatible with that DFI board , I know alot of follks were having problems with ram on those boards when they were the popular board of the month

Look's like you did everything that you could do , but i'll go with the board or like HigHTecHReDNecK said ram compatible with the board?

you change your psu, wich one?
not a cheap one i hope?

another thing i can think of is your Power Bar did you try another one or another wall plug in the house?
or the black wire that connects into you psu?

Ya actually when I first started having these issues I talked to Solid and his said it could be my hard drive cause it was old and that sense I moved to a new house it could be bad wiring that killed my hard drive. So I went out and bought a new boot drive got rid of my bad drives and also purchased a Belkin UPS with auto voltage regulation so the power is clean. . . .now.

I'm not sure which ram it was that cause problems for these boards, I think it was 1T timings but not sure. I'll have to do some research and find out. In the mean time I bought some artic silver thermal grease and I'm going to try that out and see If that changes anything at all. Will see *cross' fingers*

Well I got an update.

I cleaned up the CPU and Fan and added new thermal paste, dropped it down a whole 3 degree's, not bad.

I also changed the ram timings to 2T. According to my research it is this that causes the problem with the DFI boards. It likes 2T timings not 1T so with this changed im now switching back to XP Pro and will see if I still have this problem. *crosses fingers*

I'm really curious about this , I just bought a DFI board and It would be good to have a heads up as to wether the timings make a difference.

Yes with my DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra D board and AMD 4000 I have to use 2T or I get similar problems.

*Sigh* Well I have news. I did did everything that was suggested. Cleaned up the CPU put new thermal grease and changed my ram timings.

BUT!!!!!! I'm still having the same problem. I was in the middle of testing it out in CS:S when it locked up on me! *cry*

So I downloaded everest ultimate and I'm stressing the CPU right now. It's been about 10 minuets and I running about 55c is what everest is saying for the CPU. Which I assume is well in the limits of operating temp under full load. I guess next I'm going to test the RAM and see what that gives.

I'm completely out of ideas.

Edit: While running the stress test of FPU (floating point) I hit 60c which I have set as the shut down temp and it shut down my computer. Oh well I guess I know its not the cpu thats causing the problem. Because it has never shut down before so I can now rule out over heating as a problem.

So here is another question. Do you think my ram timings have anything to do with it at all? Right now my ram is clocked to 2.5-3-3-6 with 2T CR. You think If i made it any more loose it would help?

Yeah, loose 'em up and try, it ain't gonna hurt anything... and also when i get mine too tight, it freezes up like you're describing...
Does the memory get enough voltage?

Yup, like Bman said , loosen them up a tad and see what happens , go to the memory mfg. site and check to see what thier settings are ( voltages )

Ok now here is an odd thing. It has yet to crash again. After playing CS:S last night it runs ok. Haven't done a thing. I've been gaming all day today in WoW and been watching some movies on my computer and its running fine. I guess that was it, maybe its just CS:S oh well. I guess its ok now.

I swear sometimes I think my computer is a women. It can be so moody at times, maybe it was my computers "time of the month" LoL
