Default ThinkVantage Fluff : Please help

Ok, so I have this Thinkpad Z60m, and it comes with a huge suite called ThinkVantage. From what I can tell, it's mostly networking and security stuff that I have absolutely no need for. I know it's an integral part of the computer so i don't want to completely delete it, but I do want to trim it down. i have looked into my Startup programs, and this Thinkvantage suite has at least a dozen programs it runs on startup. This computer stays at home, and is only used by me and my wife. i want to know if theirs anyway to find out which of these programs I can turn off the startup option, because like I said before, I really don't need any of it. Being perfectly honest, I would probably remove the whole suite all together if I was sure it wasn't going to cause any kind of issues.

Anyone out there familiar with this Thinkvantage suite, why I would need it, and if/how I can remove it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Run msconfig using the Run command in the start menu, and uncheck the boxes under the startup tab. I recommend doing them one at a time, reboot, and see if you can live without it. Then go on to the next.

My main problem is that most of these programs that I would be halting run in the background, and I never notice them. There are like a dozen of them though and it takes so long to startup and shutdown because of these background programs.

What's life without a little adventure? TURN THEM OFF? PISH!!! UNINSTALL THEM THERE PROGRAMS!!! SAVE THE SPACE FOR STUFF YOU REALLY NEED, LIKE PR0N!!!

Seriously, though... The less you have running automatically at startup, the faster you are going to get through the boot-up to your desktop.

Now, if these are programs that depend on other programs in the suite to be able to run, then I could see an issue... However, since you say you don't need them or use them, I can't think of a better reason to UNINSTALL them completely...

Your machine DID come with a restore CD, did it not? Even the HPs with the Restore CD information saved on one of the HDDs allow you to re-install factory programs without wiping the HDDs and starting all over again... Worst case scenario, you end up having to re-install the suite (though I have a hard time thinking that could even possibly come true), and you hate me for the rest of my life... I can live with that...

Just in case, though... Take a look at some of the Vista Tweak Guides we have here, some of the programs and services that you don't need can be safely disabled, and that will speed up your boot times as well... And if it's not running Vista, the same BlackViper that is in there talking about Vista has done a lot of homework on XP, too!

Good luck, and let us know how it goes...

if your thinkpad has the IBM blue button, dont worry thats your restore answer, at least mine is, it has all the software that came preinstalled on your lappy in a hidden partition, but if you reformatted without useing it you may be up a creek, so as said before whats life without a little adventure
