| Hi was reading on the steam forums and im going to be running a hlds server. anyways when i was reading it said in order to achieve higher than 100 server side fps you have to run a high resolution timer and adjust the sys_tic rate accordingly to the desired fps. know i know that it says you can just run windows media player in the background and it will force a high resolution timer but is there any .exe program that you can run instead of something like media player to force windows to use a high resolution timer? | ||

| I've been running my own HLDS for about 6 months now, and I've never needed a high resolution timer for my server. And I'm doubtful that using one would increase the performance for the clients in the first place. Instead, try adjusting some of the stock settings of the server. The settings below are some that I use on my CS:S Gungame server.cfg. The main ones to adjust are sv_maxrate, sv_maxupdaterate, and fps_max. // bandwidth rates/settings sv_minrate 0 sv_maxrate 20000 decalfrequency 10 sv_maxupdaterate 66 sv_minupdaterate 10 fps_max 600 Also, your stock hlds will run at a tick rate of 33, so in your batch file to start the server, add the command "- tickrate xx", with x being the tick rate you want (33, 66, or 100). You must adjust the above three commands in unison with the tick rate to see any noticeable changes. Hope this helps. | ||

| Well from what i know so far is if you are running windows for your game server it has built in high resolution timmers but you have to force them to run for example if you run windows media player it forces windows to use a high resolution timer you dont have to be playing any music or anything it just has to run from there you adjust your sys_tickrate to what ever you want your fps example sys_tickrate 500 for 500 server side fps or sys_tickrate 1000 for 1000 server side fps and useing a high resolution timer makes all the difference in the world lol trust me. only thing is i want something to force xp to run its high resolution timmer without using media player also another thing you can do is when your hlds server is running open up taskmanager go to the process for your server right click it and change the priority to high when you force the high resolution timmer and set your tickrate high with a high cpu priority it should give you maximum registration. | ||

| ya the only way i know how to do it is to open media player and just let it run in the background what im looking for is something that would be just a small process running in the background forcing a active high resolution timmer. i used this program to test the resolution of my computer that uses a high resolution timmer and it was hitting over 6,700 fps refresh response times only thing is it only runs for about 3 seconds lol and if anyone knows more about batch files then i do maybe someone could take that program and set a endless loop on it and make a batch file for me to run it? | ||
