| There was a project by a company called Falling Leaf systems, and they managed to release an alpha build of DX10 for XP. But it seems in the last few days they've decided to call it a day (no one seems to know why...pressure from M$ perhaps?) and their official website is down. Apparently the project will continue under a different name. Alky Project | ||

| i would recommend against using the alky dx10 libraries for a couple of reasons...and from my personal experience with them... -the libraries are flat out incompatible with certain games/apps. anyone who's used them and tried to play Gears of War knows exactly what im talking about (flat out crashes w/o any solid indication of why), and causes all kinds of hell with other games (you will have to force bioshock to run in dx9 using a cmd line switch). -in many cases, the benifits do not outweigh the detriments, ive yet to see any game look genuinely better in dx10 vs 9, crysis is a prime example of this (using the "very high" hack). -any serious game that uses dx10 will also do checks to verify that the OS its running on is Vista or better. again, crysis is a prime example of this (unless you are using the "very high" hack). the whole project just seems like a proof-of-concept that went screwy, and while they might have had some success running an application or game using dx10 libs in xp, i wholeheartedly doubt that anyone should look at their project as any sort of solution to get dx10 games working as such in xp. | ||

| Fu3lman! Nice to see you! I have to agree with your assessment, the possible incompatibilities and lack of improvement outweighs the cool factor of running DX10 on XP. When you load any DX it embeds deep into your OS, there is no easy way to back out of it. | ||

| Maybe the next Vista fixes will make it more appealing to upgrade.....and utilize DX10. But, for right now I'm sticking with XP. Maybe this summer I'll upgrade so I can get the full benefits from my EVGA 8800 GTX. But right now, I'm happy with my current configuration. ![]() | ||
