Yep its out and it kicks major a$$. It allows you to turn off those annoying features before you ever use it!

Woo!

vLite - Windows Vista configuration tool

Someother tips and tricks

Change the Start Menu "Shut Down" button

The Windows Start Menu's new shut down default is "sleep" - however, you may want to change this for whatever reason. To change it:
  1. Click on Start, and then click on Control Panel.
  2. Click on "System and Maintenance".
  3. Click on "Power Options".
  4. Select a power management plan and then click on "Change Plan Settings".
  5. Click on "Change advanced power settings".
  6. In the Power Options dialog that appears, expand "Power Buttons and Lid", and then expand "Start menu power button".
  7. Click on "Setting" and then choose the function you want the button to perform - "Sleep", "Hibernate", or "Shut down".
  8. Click on OK.
  9. Close the "Edit Plan Settings" Control Panel window.
How to disable hibernation in Vista.
1. Press the WINDOWS key and type cmd into the Start Search box but *don't* press ENTER
2. Right-click on cmd in the Programs list and select Run As Administrator
3. Click Continue when the UAC prompt appears
4. Type powercfg -h off and press ENTER

Do you have a SATA disk drive in your computer? If so, you can squeeze a little more performance out of your hard disk. This speeds up the performance of your hard disk by enhancing write caching. However, if your computer is not connected to a battery backup and you loose power you have a increased risk for data loss or corruption. If you have a laptop your chances are data loss or corruption are dramatically less since your laptop battery will kick on if your power source is lost. Let's get started:
  1. Click on the Start Button and key in Device Manager and hit Enter.
  2. Expand Disk Drives.
  3. Right click on your hard drive and select Properties.
  4. On the Policies tab, check Enable advanced performance.
  5. Hit OK and close Device Manager.
And yes I'm a dirty little info stealer... Sorry no citation!

EvilClown's got someother good ones.

You just got some +Rep from me Dreyco

That's awesome. Especially the thing about changing the start button from sleep, hibernate, and shutdown.

Best of all with vlite you can get your Vista install onto a single CD. Make that fat lady a skinny lady.

For those of you who absolutely can't enable hibernation no matter what, even with terminal commands - you have to turn off 'Hybrid Sleep' in the Power Options Advanced Settings window.

Just a question though - why does hibernating cause my PC to reboot? It was doing this with XP before, and a reinstall fixed the problem.
