yea Sega was bought out by Nintendo a while ago, They kept the sega trademark and now they solely develop games for Nintendo

Thats really hard to tell, I personally think Link has always been the most versatile player, he has excellent melee range, and a decent range of long range attacks. But this is all balanced through other character's range/power/speed of attacks, so you can't really say theres a "best", its all on your play style.
