I really liked this piece; it throws the discussion of "are games art" on its ear by asking the more fundamental question -- what does that even mean? Understanding The Fun of Super Mario Galaxy by David Sirlin
This ran a little bit ago but I don't know if it got much attention; Sirlin is notable for his thoughts on Super Street Fighter II HD which have gotten a lot of attention (he's designing the title and has made the decision to simplify the moves.) Here, he talks about what makes Super Mario Galaxy fun, and I think it's worth a look, given the amount of attention the title has gotten.
