| Now, I truly don't believe that these advertisers had any racial undertones when they developed the ad...but i can't help but think... What the hell were they thinking??? Sure, the world is gonna go 'ga-ga' over an ad for the PSP that shows a 'white' woman in dominance over a 'black' woman. Come on...take your head out of your butt and come out into the real world....sheesh... | ||

| Well, let me go the other way on this one. It's pretty easy to be insensitive to such an ad when you are not the offended party. I could easily think of several different types of ads in which you could switch out these two models in which each combination would offend a certain segment of our society. I know that I certainly would be offended if it showed a white male 1800's Army Calvery Officer telling an American Indian that they were "taking over this playground" or some such comment. Am I touting "political correctness"? Perhaps I am and the ones that are rolling their eyes right now would certainly be upset if I were to provide a different combination of that ad above. Oh yeah, trust me, I could. This is exactly what is wrong with our society today and why we have so many segmented classes is because if you are not part of the offended party, then what's the big deal? I say to get some backbone and stand up for what's decent. There is really no reason to show a white person in the position of dominance gripping the jaw of a black person. | ||

| Bubby, I whole heartedly agree... I don't think such a thing 'offends' me, but the ad was very insensitive and of poor taste. It should never have gone through the think tank phase. But, they put it in the netherlands where there would be the least outcry it seems. Just imagine if they put that ad in New York, LA,or Atlanta... Sony is making a track record now of these kinds of ads... | ||

| Sony pulled the ads... I want to walk up to the PR guy for sony, look him in the eye, and just say "Dumbass".... "We... recognize that people have a wide variety of perceptions about such imagery and we wish to apologize to those who perceived the advert differently to that intended. In future, we will apply greater sensitivity in our selection of campaign imagery, and will take due account of the increasingly global reach of such local adverts, and their potential impact in other countries." | ||

I agree that there was no reason to run such an ad - the message could have been displayed differently and Sony should have known something like this would come up. However, I disagree with the claim that it is easy to be insensitive when you are not the offened party. I've seen billboards advertising rap albums and even movies demeaning folks of white skin color as "crackers" and I've heard the phrase used violently in some very, very angry rap lyrics but I don't raise a fracas about it. It disappoints me, but I don't raise my flag and cannons at the rappers and advertising companies. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
