That's retarded. All that does is promote piracy.

Thumbs down This is so ridiculus

He stated that games would be deemed "violent" by a 10-member committee, and taxes would "be levied swiftly" against game publishers. While none of this is final, gamers of voting age in Texas who'd like to keep their games from being even more expensive have a chance to make their opinion heard during the state's elections in March.

Excuse me, but aren't games already rated? Isn't this a bit redundant? Not only that but they could save the tax dollars it would take to pay the "10 member committee", and then they would not have to tax the games.

I can see taxing booze, cigarettes, gambling and even food, but video games and soda? Please!

Somehow though I do not see the video game comapnies sitting still for this. They know the price of games is already high, and should they invoke this tax that would hurt their sales.

and, with this 10-member committee....what will they deem to be "violent" all they need is 10 non-gamers to say that Mario jumping on Goomba's heads are too violent...answer, 25 bucks extra..

Not a good sign...not a good sign at all...

Retarded is a great word to describe this! Oh, and here's an update to the article:
Update: Actually, it seems the article quoted in the story is incorrect; Locke calls for a 100% tax. As stated on his website:
"[a] This COMMISSION shall levy a 100% of price sales cost tax for the sale on all item listed below: 1 . any video game containing any form of human violence."

If this goes to trial (i'm betting it will if it gets implemented), it'll get nuked faster than you can say "First Ammendment Infringement". Basically, what he is proposing is using taxation to try to eradicate things that he doesn't like, and that is not going to fly. This, however, begs a different question: How the h3ll do these idiots get elected?!?

Well, the good thing is, he hasn't been elected. He is running for governor...

Its a retarded stance to take as well. I don't like rap music, but I'd never go as far as to make people pay a 100% increase on them. This is crazy.

And I can guaruntee you, "any video game containing any form of human violence" is such a broad term that it can be applied to ALL video games except backyard sports games, puzzle games, and some barbie game. Everything else has some form of "human violence". All they need is 10 knuckle-heads to vote on each game to "reap" the benefits.

I truthfully don't think we have anything to worry about because of the other taxes he proposes to make up for the lost cash...
