| When you purchase a new game do you have a set price that you will not go above? What is a fair price for a new game that has both singleplayer and multi? Now keep in mind I know what we would like to pay, but I want to know what you think should be a fair asking price. ![]() | ||

| The highest that I prefer to spend on games is 50 bucks. But, with the 360...games cost 60 if its not made/published by Microsoft, which is stupid. It's a totally arbitrary figure made up by the gaming companies. In fact, I wouldn't MIND paying 60 for a game as long as it was not a port (EA and 2KSports) and included everything in the 'current gen games' (I'm looking at you EA). This whole, more for less thing on the 360 and soon the PS3 is bull honkey. There's absolutely no reason why they shouldn't have everything included at the higher price... Sorry...got a bit off topic there, but in the end... I don't mind spending 50 bucks on a game I really really want. A game i'm not so sure about? 35 dollars or less. | ||

| I truly hate paying for anything that comes on a disc for some reason. When I had an xbox I only bought 2 games... halo and halo 2. I stood in line for 3 hours in the cold for that damn game. It was a great game and definatly worth the $55 I paid. We had a 52 hour lan party the next week and man oh man, I smelled like bawls, donuts, and BO the next morning hahaha. | ||

| Guest | $40. I look for deals and sales for new games, like when I purchased BF2. I got fed up with paying $50 for a game back when I was gaming on PS2. When they came out with the Greatest Hits games for $20, that was great. The cost gets so rediculous some times. I'm glad I'm not in the position of buying $60 X360 games. | |

| Now honestly it depends because we may have to face looking at a sixty dollar price tag. Now if we are talk current generation then yeah 40 50 is fair. Now depending on the publisher, title, and system i do think 60 is fair because it'll be on a much bigger format so manufacture wise they need the income to continue to generate cost for future titles. | ||

| I put $30.00 but I would really have ot say $40.00 because of inflation. I can remember back when games came on 3.5" floppies. There would be like 4-8 disks and a third of the games price back then was just the price of the disks if you purchased them retail. Game makers are making bank, hand over fist, on these games nowadays... The media is cheaper and the technology is better. All be it, they spend more time developing the games, I still feel we the consumer get taken to the bank. Shoot, most of the games produced these days you can finish in as little as a weekend if you lock yourself in the basement with a microwave and a few hot pockets... I can remember the good old days when you would get a game and it could take six months to finish if you played it a few hours a day. The only games out there now that can take that long to complete are games made by Bethesda Softworks. I wouldn't mind paying big bucks for a long term game. BTW, the "Old Days" that I am refereing to are the Apple IIe, 386/486/Pentium I days. | ||

| I put $40. Most of my reasons are basically summed up by what FeRaL said, but since I am really frugal w/my money, even games that start out at 40 I'll wait until the price drops to around 30-25 before I pick it up. I'll even hit the used rack for a new release game to save some money, because I know there are a few people in the area who will buy the game the first day and either a) attempt to copy it, or b) sit down and play it until they beat it, then they will take it back for exchange or credit or something. Anyway, the game is retailing for 50, and I'll pick it up for 35. | ||

| $40, thats about £20 - £25 in the UK, I don't think i've ever paid more than that for a game, I try to buy them used or off of the Internet, failing that I just wait until the price drops to a reasonable level which never takes very long. Most games will half in price in the frist 3 months. | ||

| It really depends upon the game, but I will hardly pay more than $40 for a new game. One of the reasons I switched to the Playstation brand (the original PS before PS2) was because its games were always cheaper (most started at $40 new) than N64, Dreamcast, and PC games. The most I ever payed for a new game was $70 for Chrono Trigger back in 1995, but that was worth it and I would do it again this instant if I had the chance. (Yes, I would buy another copy in addition to my own just to say that I have two - I'm that obsessed). I also refuse to pay $20 for these short episodic releases - HL2: Episode One was probably worth $15 at best (though I waited for Circuit City to sell it at $8, haha!). | ||

| V-Z - I agree with you on the 20 dollar episodic content stuff... But what about the next installment in the H-L2 lore? Episode II which is to include TF2? Would you pay 20 bucks for that? And sadly..I don't think it'll cost 20 bucks, but approach the 30-35 dollar realm just because it includes the long awaited TF2... | ||

| Stud I think you are being a bit too optomistic on the 30-35. My guess is that Valve will want $40.00 or perhaps more. As was said earlier though, if the game is good the price really is no problem. It is when I shell out $40 - $60.00 and get a piece of crap that is uninstalled quick. | ||

I've been waiting for TF2 for a LONG time (read: about 2 years into TFC's lifespan), so I'll probably be buying HL2: Episode Two if it is $30 or less, meaning I'll have to wait for someone like Circuit City to hold a sale so I can take their ad to Best Buy and price match it! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
