What do you think is the best screen resolution for gaming?

I usually run 1024x768 with most eye candy on...But, like spectrum said...i go for a balance...whatever looks the best and gets the best FPS is A-OK with me.

Agreed. I must say, though, there is a big difference between "playable" and "totally drool-inducing"... I like to doodle and try to find the balance between the two.

I also factored in the size of my monitor into this equation (17 inch ViewSonic CRT) so I am choosing 1024 x 768.

I use a 17" CRT monitor, and my vote was for 1024x768 (85 Hz refresh rate is what works the best for me). If anyone wants to send me a 19"+ monitor for comparative testing, i'd be more than happy to revise my vote :biggergri

None of the above - For most games I go with 1600x1200; unless it runs slow, which then I resort to 1280x1024.
