Default Black Water???

Any ideas on how to change to water color to black or blood red, anyone? Just thought that might be cool.

Charcoal is often used in water filters and makes the water black when the filter is first used, but I bet it would sandblast&destroy the inside of a pump.

I think the story on dyes and water-cooling has always been don't - you just destroy the pump.

I have long been threatening to try some of the dyes that I remember from chemistry ...... this like "methylene blue" and "congo red".

So far, I have lacked the ambition / desire.

As MF stated the consensus on dyes has been ...... don't.

As long as we're on the topic, why are dyes bad? Also, how about an orange dye?(maybe UV) BTW, black is coo!

Putwig, I think you meant Bromthymol blue Good stuff, but it turns yellow when there is carbon dioxide in it SOOO I don't think it'd work. That is if you did in fact mean bromthymol blue, but if you were thinking of something else all the power to you

Nope, methylene blue is what I meant.

Google it. We used it as an indicator in chem (for redox reactions if I recall correctly), very deep dark blue that turned clear when the reaction was complete.

I have since discovered it is used in aqauriums to word off evil bacteria and fish parasites ...... so at least in the concentrations they use it is pump safe.

Improper dye selection can harm your tubing or ionize your water, but the most common problem is clogging the pump impeller.

Dye-Lite (a brand name) is the only dye that AntiM and I know and trust. It is UV active and available in 3 colours ( orange is not one of them).

Yes, be sure to check for the putwig-and-AntiM-seal-of-approval on all your watercooling products.

Yes, you're right, that methylene blue is awesome.

While we're on the die subject...I'd like to have my water white so I was thinking I'd just use milk as my coolant! All those nice little bacteria critters must have alot of heat capacity and can just rub it off on the sides of my heater core which would be alot more efficient than that red water wetter I'm going to use that will probably put a pink tint in the water. Now I don't want those heat carrying critters to die off, so I'll mod up a small fridge and put the bay res I'm getting in there so they can take a rest. I was thinking 2% milk would do since skim doesn't have enough heat carriers, any opinions on this? The brand doesn't really matter, they all taste the same to me so I'm sure they'll all perform the same. --> <---

May I reccomend some highly concentrated orange juice without pulp for the orange die you want? Refrigeration wouldn't be needed either...oranges grow in 100 degree weather in Florida, I don't see any reason why there would be any problems cooling off a processor.

Hmm... Orange juice...
I could put a spiget on the front and when I'm thirsty I could get a drink! lol. I think painting the hose would be a cool idea, more color poss. there.
