Question Submersion fluid question

Greetings to all!

After reading some forum threads on the matter, I've decided to try submerging a PC...

At my local gas station, they sell mineral and synthetic oil, as well as automobile coolant that looks rather like antifreeze and, according to the label is made of "mono propylene glycol, nitrates and water". I'd like to ask if anyone knows if this is:

a. Good coolant at ambient temperatures

b. Harmless to the motherboard and components

c. Better or worse than motor oil

Test it with a DMM first.

Automotive coolant will conduct electricity.

Hojo is correct, common antifreeze is slightly conductive. No where near as conductive as tap water. But it will make the needle move ever so slightly on my meter. Not good enough for submersion.

It's also highly toxic, especially to dogs and children.

It is a however a better conductor of heat than mineral or motor oil.

Thank you, you've all been most helpful.

Oh well I'll go buy a gallon of motor oil...

Does synthetic work better than mineral, or is it overkill?

Smile Non-Flamable Non-Conductive Liquid

Excuse me if everyone already Knows about this stuff. I scanned the threads quickly but did not read every one on this subject. If your intrested, rich and bored here is the stuff except it costs 40 bucks a quart and thats on sale. How much would you think that you would need to fill a case I'm guessing at least 10 gallons. That's 1600 dollars, I think I would rather buy another machine over 10 gallons of ooze. But if you really want to do it here is the link to buy the stuff

You can always read Duck's article here. But he wont give away the name of the chemical that he was using, only that you need a licesnse.

im not sure he knows what a gallon is anyways. 10 jugs of milk is way bigger than my pc and you can fit an entire pc without case inside a stardard bucket with room to spare.

I'm judging my guess from a 10 gallon aquarium when you look at it ,it ain't all that big.
But if you want to be more precise I just measured my machine which is rather large it's a 5, 5 1/4 bays and 1, 3 1/2 bay tower that comes to 3060 cubic inches. A gallon contains 231 cubic inches so that would work out to 13.246753 gallons granted that your power supply, motherboard and various devices would take up some volume and since I'm to lazy to open my machine and measure everything and calculate the volume that they would displace I'm thinking 10 gallons would come pretty close thats not including the volume of any type of radiator you might be using.
