| i dunno if this has been done before (if it has tell me where i could read about it.) so i was thinking to get one of those mini fridges for like 50 bucks at the sharper image or somewhere cheaper and then take it apart and use the thing that makes it cold and put it somewhere near the GPU or whatever. but i was thinking condensation would be a problem becuase i live in florida and the humidity is hell down here so maybe i would have to do like a plexiglass enclosure with the thing that makes it cool sticking through a somewhat airtight hole and the rest of the stuff that emits the exhaust will be on the oustide where the fans will take away the heat. and when the cooling unit was in the case i was thinking you might have to run it a little bit to get rid of the humidity and then put in the parts. So is this idea worth it or any good? and is it possible? also i had an idea for a different design where the cooling units would be near the front intake fans so it would spread the cool ai around but condensation may again be a problem. but my room is the coldest room in the house i dont think it would be a problem (70-72 degrees) | ||

| Get a minibar fridge, they have an actual compressor and ****. The compressor may overheat if its constantly one, so just attach a large, heatsink to it and you'd be fine. A minibar fridge is basically a DIY Prometia system, same compressor size and everything. You can surf eBay and get one for $50 I'm sure. Just buy one and dismantle it so only the heatpipe, compressor, blah blah blah is left over and somehow integrate a heatsink on the end that the heatpipe (in this case cooling pipe) can go through. It's worth a try for only $50ish for a minibar fridge. | ||

Yeah all you need is copper tubing. A brazing torch. Gauges. Freon. A license to use aforementioned. Cutting and bending tools. A place to do the work. RTV silicone. Neoprene. Non-conformal coating. Tubing insulation. Computer controlled heating element. etc. etc.No big deal. You could knock one out in a afternoon. You crack me up b boy. I'm not saying it can't be done. It has. By qualified refregeration techs with the equipment and know how. But the notion of an average person building a promethia unit for 50 bucks is ludicrous. | ||

| My personal idea was as follows - Mount Compressor-condenser unit externally from case. Seal off all fan openings/holes to the case so condensation would be lowered. Insulate case with foam insulation so it could be cut and not interfer with parts. Place fans to circulate air over evaporation coil. Should work, but unless you know how to blaze copper fittings, have a EPA certification card, and a lot of time, you might want to invest in water cooling or a really good air cooled system. Also having a compressor/condensor sitting/hanging off the side of your case might be a turn off for some of you. Taking the thought even farther - seal the case really well (read: water tight), and fill it with mineral oil and use a pump to circulate fluid over the coil. | ||

| hmmm unless you are panning to seal of the CPU or whatever hardware you plan to cool down in a vaccum environment with no air I give condensation from a freezer/ refrigeration 2 weekmax to screw up your hard ware. You can build a plexi enclosure r whatever you want. al long as their is air, that is cold you will have some amount of humidity on the air. To answer that question simply... I would not recomment it. You would be better of buying an AC for the computer room and cooling ambient temps. Then go ahead and make sure the PC has enough fans to maintain air circulation. | ||

| Direct Cool Hoe | I've got a dismantled mini fridge, the tools and a little refrigeration backround from the fishing industry. The evaporator unit i.e.mini-freezer on prometeia is where the real trick is, as well as a computer controlled thermostat. As AntiM stated, not an afternoons work... B-boy, you could do us all a favor and try it ,solder the connections too and then look real close for leaks... don't try this at home, connections are to be brazzed and not soldered...soldered refridgeration connections will burst!!! | |
