Question External WC questions

Well i went back through a bunch of posts on water cooling and think i have a better understanding on it and such,
but most of these seem to have been internal systems,
im just wondering is there anything special or something that needs to be done diffrent for external (aside from makeing holes for the tubes to go in )

So far some of the things im pretty sure on are:
MAZE 4 cpu block
Hydor L30 Pump
10 feet of Tygon Tubeing now 20 ft

My main question is would the radiator and res be any diffrent then the internal cooling setups

I want to go water cooling for something new, always seemed really interesting and want to try it for myself, i want good performance and will probably get a 2500+ barton that will be overclocked to were ever its happy but not a huge amount

I am not going budget, but i wont be trying to set a new record for OCing if you know what i mean, any help would be appreciated, if you need any info on my stuffs ill be more then happy to let you know

EDIT: spelling, many more spelling edits to come im sure.

May I then lead you no further than to the wonderful Koolance Exos. Read a review of it here:

External Watercooling has its advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages: Cooler Running System Temperatures.
You dont have all that crap inside your case
If a leak occurs you arn't as screwed as you would be with an internal watercooling sys.
Disadvantages: Bulky units outside your case.

If you want to do a home made external, then the parts shouldnt be that different at all. You will probably want a high flow pump but with the L30 you are going to get, there shouldnt be any problems. I would consider maybe a few more feet of tubing just to be sure. And you might also want to invest in some high quality quick disconnects.

Eh-heh...no B-boy. He is making his own, not buying one.

All I can say is that it will not be any different than having the stuff inside the case. Just make sure the res is the highest point in the WC loop so the air collects there. You could build a little case for the parts like the Corsair Hydrocool. The possibilities are endless.

edit: oh yeah, like neo said, buy more tubing than 10ft. May I suggest 20ft if you can afford the little extra cash....that way you have all the tubing you'll need for a while.

External is not much different than internal. Depends on how external you mean. Just mounting to the outside of the case...very little difference other than what you mentioned. Larger pump would only be a concern with very long tubing or vertical lift. 'ducky's right, the L30 should be more than enough.

I wouldn't go with quick connects if your just externally mounting the radiator. Flow killers. Handy if you making an external enclosure and plan on moving it a lot.

It's a very good option if you have room for it. Same general rules as internal systems apply.

Room isnt an issue, i would like to have it all on the outside really with just the tubes going in, i fell more comfortable messin with it on the outside then in the sometimes "cramped" case, not that a my case is very small.

Thanks for the help all.

This is my exact system. (Yours would only be different by the block used and the pump)good for coolant temps within 1-2degC of ambient :
Black Ice Extreme ll
4 x 120mm fans
1gal reservior
danner350 mag drive
Direct Die jet
8ft of Tygon 1/2''
I have mine outside the case (external)
it is easy to fill and clean, Radiator is the most efficient I have used.(I tried several, heater cores etc.)
You have several options on mounting, and most important to me, is that I know for sure that it is "running,leak-free" any time I care to take a glance at it.

Yeah Zennzzo and I have almost the same setup as far as it being externaln, (acceptfor the DIRECT DIE) sweet . I just have 2 hoses coming in through the back of my case to the waterblock. You can mount the rad on the back of the computer using L-Brackets or just have it loose. The monst important thing is that you have a good 120mm fan on the rad. You can get a really good one here,

http://www.svc.com/120x38mmfans.html.

As far as a reservoir goes you can make one of your own out of PVC or go to walmart and get a 3 quart clear jar. They usually are seen holding flour or sugar around in the kitchen but that seems to work well to. Also it its nice to have the reservoir at the top of the loop as an airtrap but not neccesary. It just is faster to bleed your system of air when it is on the top. If you do go wih Quick disconnects, look at Ducatis setup he has a little wooden box setup for the whole thing. Anyways good Luck.
