| Ok.. not realy, that would hurt alot I was bound and determined to stay air cooled, but my friend who got me started into overclocking, just upgraded to a new copper CPU waterblock (Maze I think). So that left him with his old aluminumn 5/16 block. He also had a small, low power Pelt (forgot the specs) someone had given him. We got together one weekend and he had come up with this... Clamped in place Peltier Nearly finished Pelt Bonded with epoxy and a coat of Arctic Silver 3 underneath. we have to seal the edges yet (automotive high temp RTV ok?) I have a brand new aux. power steering cooling radiator sitting in my garage, its aprroximately 12"long 4" wide and 1 inch thick and made of aluminumn. I can make my own fan shroud for it. I see people use all kinds of automotive cooler cores. Would a cooler that size be up for the task, and possibly support upgrades down the road? I will be using 3/8 fittings and lines, but will need buy adapters for the 5/16 waterblock. We have most of the other parts need for the rest of the system except a pump..... I almost fell out of my chair when he told me to go to a fish supply store and get a pump after hearing some of the "Pumps Gone Wild" type horror stories. I know now some people have used a "pond pump" I will be looking into that later in the Forums, along with things like power supplies, wiring and sealing the Pelt from moisture. I also plan on using a sealed METAL res, after watching his Plexiglass one leak a drop out of the top corner when I tipped his computer system momentarily over on its side.(powered off of course!) when I was adding some plastic looms over his power supply wiring. We just wondered If we are headed in the right general direction with the Pelt and block . | ||

| Direct Cool Hoe | $Solid$ I didn't see a cold plate...Are you planning to put that pelt right on the CPU? I do belive if you power a bare-ass pelt up without having it cooled, the peltier effect would't occur. The effect only occurs when heat is effectivly removed from one side, giving the desired results on the other, then a cold plate and that is what is usually interfaced to the CPU....There are some Pelt-Pimps here too, they'll be not too far behind. good luck w/pelt! ![]() Last edited by ZENNZZO; 30-July-03 at 12:46 PM.. | |

| There is a cold plate in there, just hard to see. It's going directly on the die. I am not exactly sure how he plans on sealing it My friends camera is a little bit old (1.2megapixel) will try to get a better pic this Sunday. He has been using W/C for a few years now, but this is our first Pelt! I registered my friend $SOLID$ RtimD this weekend, he should be posting in this thread soon (sent him an email to this link) I'm gonna have to put the hurt on that boy if he don't open his email and finsh registering! ![]() | ||

| Necro you do know that you havto seal the mobo aswell dont you? {Edit} This may require a longer explianation. When you cool below ambient, it is a given that condensation will occur, something that can be quite fatal to your chip and the motherboard. There exist a view giudes online which explain how to insulate your MB and proc against condensation and I am in the process of writing an article/how-to on pelts. You will need to go out and but Dielectric grease, RTV silicone and neoprene. This is the best guide I have found so far...but mine I believe will be a bit more in depth. http://www.gruntville.com/howtos/peltier/index.php PM me with any further questions or simply post them. | This is for my buddy Necro. I work in the feild of automotive testing. While I was at Siemens I noticed a heat pipe on a bench. I asked the Tech what it was for and he told me it was for a Peltier. It's used to cool a NOX analyzer. He gave me the Peltier and heat pipe. I bench tested it with the pipe and it went to 0°c and drew 1.7 amps. using 5vdc. I plan on sealing it with silicon and pulling the heat off with an aluminum water block. I know there is alot to consider if it dropes below dew point and the power requirments are to high. Advise is more than welcome. Thanks!! | ||

| RtimD Welcome to PR! I would suggest that you wait untill I am done with my How-to article on peltier instalation and condensation pervention. I will completly explain the process you need to follow to insure you do not ruin you mb and/or processor. Btw you arent german are you btw 2 I am almost sure I have played against a $SOLID$ in Counterstrike...I am clan leader of [SPO]+ | ||

| Welcome To PimpRig Tim! It's about time you finaly posted! I was getting ready to publish your I.P. address and let the boys here loose on yo ass I was kinda stuck for some of the specs on the project.... We need to get some better pics of the cold plate, and maybe you could tell them what brand waterblock, and the sizes of the fittings on it. Are we using the heatpipe for anything? Lord Nikon, RTimD and I have only been able to work on this a few hours on Sundays for the past couple of weeks. Yeah ther is a ton of stuff we need to watch for, moisture control being No1, We are going to be taking our time with this, we were hoping to get it finished before Quakecon, but there are only 2 weeks leftnow. I have been reading up on peltiers I'm lookin forward to seeing your guide!! Now my question: Will that small of a peltier be able to keep up? yeah it gets cold just sitting there with no heat source, but what about when it's sitting on the proccesor? I see everyone else is using a much larger one. I have been considering just getting a new copper waterblock and the large pelt. So far I can hit 2.4ghz on air, but it starts pushing past 45c once I start Folding@Home, so I leave it at 2.3 and she stays under 43c. I know there is a formula to figure out the thermal dissapation, but I went crosseyed trying to do the math ![]() | ||

| Direct Cool Hoe | $SOLID$ Necro, Look like you are aware of other things that weren't posted we're just lookin out for ya bro. Sounds like RtimD got his post on , so that's good. I put that CD in the mail 4 ya too! Good luck on the project and... Above All, Have Fun ![]() | |

| Thanks ZENZZO, We do realy need the input though, he is recovering from MOBO surgery last weekend, and took a minute to get back on it. He has been sippin the H20 a few years now, but has never tried the hot potatoe trick He's also the one behind getting me hooked on this "Overclocking" thingy He's the brains, I'm just the beauty ![]() | ||

| Got some pics of the heat pipe and power supply last weekend Heatpipe Heatpipe 2 Power supply I think we need to run more tests on the peltier, see if we can turn up the voltage to it. After reading up it seems this may not be much help with only 1.7amps Saw some higher power Pelts at Radio Shack today for around 20$ in there catolog, have to check them out. | ||
