Default Quick question about fittings

I just went to Home depot and picked up some 1/2" fittings. 2 splicers, 2 tee, and 3 shut off valves. When I got home I noticed that the tee's and shut off valves are loose in the tubbing but the ID is the same as the splicers that are snug. Can I just throw some metal hose clamp on those and be safe or should I not risk it?

DO they fit in there and just loose or are they not even fitting. If they have a little resistance going in you can seal it with "Plumbers Goop". You can get that anywhere. LEt it dry for 24 hours amd you'l be good. Put it on all your fittings and let dry. You can put hose clamps on for extra insurance but i don;t think you'll need it once it is sealed up.

Fittings are sold as a outside or OD..
hose is sold as inside or ID
Take your hose to the fitting place and check to be sure you are getting the best fit possible.
Different manufacturers sometimes use different dementions and still call it .50''
Look for fittings that are a snug fit and have the largest inside dementions..don't be afraid to drill or dremmel them out for a less restrictive flow...I'd go up one size for ball valves if the are in the direct cooling circut.
.50'' fittings, hose barbs only need to extend .75'' into the hose and use worm clamps or nylon clamps with softer hose like TYGON my fav...

take it back to the store and look for something bigger.

When i went to lowes they showed both ID and OD. I also brought a little tape measure to double check for myself.

you want the ID on everything to be the same size. Then use hoseclamps.

If you don't use them and don't have them on tight as you can get it you will be sorry!!!

Carefull if your running plastic/pvc fittings they're kinda brittle
I personally go for the nylon (translucent white) fittings, thinner wall, and less moulding flask (seams)
Some fittings can be overtightened, cracked or distorted.
Hose has a natural lay (curve) use that to your advantage less stress on fittings and components.

I agree with Zennzzo. Go and look for the same size hose and use nylon fittings. Then seal em' up with plumbers goop and put hose clamps on if you want.

I wouldn't use plumbers goop. Simply because i would be afraid that something would get into my system and start corroding it. I also donÂ’t really see the need for it when a tight hose clamp will work just as well.

And then if you use that can you take the hose off the fitting later?

D00d, never get sold anything when it comes to your cooling system. Close will get you high failure rate, ''exactly'' and careful
proactive maintenance will breed sucess.
