| Apex Techie I | Hey all as i said about 40,000 times before i have a koolance and i had it for about 4 months now and i am looking to get a tad more.. i have been looking around trying to get some info on Peltiers and i would like to know 1) can i put one on my koolance 2) would it be wise to do with watercooling or just about anything else you guys want to tell me go for it. i bought a hefty 500w power supply so if i get the HUGE one from dangerden i think i will be ok with the power its going to use well any input would be read and very much though about thanks for your time guys ![]() | |

| The Koolance water block was not meant to accomodate a peltier and cold plate. You would need to replace the water block, or at the very least fabricate your own mounting mechanism. The koolance is a pretty low performance water kit. I would be very hesitant to go to peltier cooling with it. Pelts get very hot, I would want a big 1/2" system running a 250 - 350 GPH pump. I would never run a pelt off my primary PSU. They are just too much of a power hog. Lastly, pelt cooling is fussy. You will need to protect everything from condensation. Plus if the pelt ever fails, or you forget to turn it on, your proc is dust. | ||

| HEHE, I just got my hands on some new gear. An industrial compressor, condensor and evaporator harvested out of a decommisioned "gut truck". Purchase price $0.00 CDN. It will be at least 18 months until I can really play with this stuff, but I will make 'em real cold. The chiller is much safer and easier, but offers nowhere near the performance of a pelier / cold plate CPU cooler. | ||

| You can mod an AT PSU for the peltier. http://www.qrp4u.de/docs/en/powersupply/ | ||

| "i really wouldnt reccomend messing with a switching powersupply. you screw up the feed back and bam 120 volts to your pelt." I have repaired and reconditioned several small switching PSUs. One of them is repairing the DC/DC converter in an old DMM made in 12/2/1981(remember those red nixie tubes), and the circuit is pretty clever(no ICs, just a few transistors, many resistors, several capacitors, a few diodes, and one transformer). And my friend Christina Mahoney actually designs switching PSUs(she explained to me all the SMPS terms). | ||

| i kind of understood it. they want to modify it to deliver 12 volt only with the miximum wattage. they pull off all the stuff for the outputs other than 12 then change some components on the controller section to raise the voltage abit. it looks like you might want a scope (which i do ) if you want to check how clean the output is. | ||
