Default Need some adive on WC setup... Please.

Here' a link to my little project I've been posting about in my welcome thread...

http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread....d=1#post473675

This is my first time venturing into this world of cooling so I'm a little hesitant to just jump in and do it without some help. I'll re list here what components I have.

DD D5 pump

Thermaltake Aquabay M1

DD TDX CPU Block

PolarFlo TT series Chipset Block

Thermaltake Aquarius 2 GPU Blcok

DD Black Ice Extreme 2 Radiator, Dual 120mm.

I think thats everything, Now what I need help with is the loop design I'm just really not sure what the most efficient path for the water is? And the other main thing I need to know is the best way to fill this system? I've seen some people on here use a "T" inline somewhere for filling but I still don't really understand how its done?
I think thats about it for my current questions, if anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it very much. Thanks in advance!

I was told this is appropriate:

This drawing is for my X Q-pack but you get the idea.

First, condolences to a fellow Giants fan. It was a sad state yesterday.

The cooling loop should go like this: Pump - Radiator - CPU Block - GPU Block - Chipset block - Res - Pump. Of course, if you do not have all those blocks you just skip it. The reservoir, or the T-line, should be the highest point in the loop, it makes it easier to bleed out air that way. Of course, it doesn't have to, you can have it wherever you want.

Thanks for the condolences on the Giants... I have to say, that game was the most pathetic display of football(or non-football) that I have ever seen! But I also have to agree with a guy that I saw on TV yesterday after the game. I don't think anyone really thought the Giants were going to do anything this year and to have a winning season is more than I could ask for at this point. I just hope Eli matures a lot from this experience and picks up his game.

My res will be the second highest point in the system... I have to mount the Rad on top of the case due to no other real choice, but that Res doesn't have a fill port so I guess I need to use a T-Line to fill? So my last question I need help with I guess is how exactly do I go about filling this thing up??? LOL

Thanks again for the help guys!

EDIT: I just purchased a DD fillport for my system. I know I could have just made a T-line with some cheap valves and tubing and what not, but I want it to look nice so I got the fill port. So is it just simply pour the water in and try and bleed as much air out as possible?

Well the M1 isn't really a reservoir, it's a level and flow indicator. You'll need a t-line or res for filling. T-line is easy, you just use a t-connector the same size as your tubing. On the 90 degree part of the fitting you run a piece of tubing to the highest point of a cooling loop. Once you fill and bleed the system, you can plug the tubing and tuck it out of the way inside the case.

Thanks AntiM for taking the time to reply to my post! From the little time I've been around I hear that you are the Ultra-PIMP when it comes to Water Cooling! I found this pic on Danger Den's sit, now their t-line hooks right up from the fillport to the pump. (Sorry can't provide pic, file to large and I'm not at home to make it the proper size) Now you have to excuse me for being stupid here but if you just poor the water in like this how is it going to bleed the air out? or are us supposed to unhook a line elsewhere to do that? lol I'm sorry but I'm just kinda confused about the filling end of things? I can build just about anything but making it work is a different story. Sorry to be troublesome, but thanks again in advance for any help!

No stupid questions, water cooling can be a bit daunting the first time.

So you setup the T line right before the pump and after the blocks, essentially where the reservoir would be. Since you have a DD Fillport I would put that in the top or upper back of the case with the tubing running to it. Exactly how you place it will depend upon where everything is inside your case.

Now when you fill it up, you use your funnel and put your coolant in through the Fillport. It will go down into the tube and the pump and start to fill up some of the tubing. What I like to do is hook the pump up to a PSU that is *NOT* connected to a PC and use one of those PSU testers to power it up and the switch that is on the back of many PSUs to turn it off. So I fill up as much water as I can and turn it on for 2-3 seconds, just enough to get the water moving and leave more room to fill.

The goal is that the pump should never run dry. So you want to make sure there is always coolant waiting to go in. So you fill the tube again, repeat. At some point you will be able to leave the pump running while you fill since there will be enough coolant in the system. You keep filling until the coolant start coming back up the fill line. At this point you cap up the FillPort and start doing the "Water Cooling Bleed Dance". This is where you will try to get all the air to into the fill tube and depends upon the setup. I normally will tilt the system to either side and front and back. Make sure any spots you see air trapped in the tubes you get it out. The main thing is the Radiator. Air can get trapped in there and be a pain in the butt to get out.

Sometime during this "Dance" you may need to put some more coolant in, please do. You may need to turn the pump on and off a few times during this process.

Eventually it seems that all the air is out. At this point you set it up for the 24 hour leak test. I normally put some paper towels under all the connections and see if anythign drips. No drips, you are ready to rock and roll.

Finally, for a coolant, I would suggest the VoyeurMods PC Ice or some equivalant. Check the review AntiM did here at Pimp Rig.

Thanks man I think thats just the info I needed... I probably won't work on the system until this weekend. Or maybe tomorrow(LOL). All I really need to do is drill hole's on the top of my case to run the tubing for the RAD and also mount the RAD on top of the case. Then I have to mount the pump and it will be time to do some plumbing!!!! woooohoooo! wish me luck
