Default dtek rad mounting

I posted a few weeks ago to get ideas on mounting a dtek rad to my acrylic case. My problem is a 80mm fan hole and I need a 120mm hole to mount the rad. I tried cutting but the pwr/reset/led switches are in the way. I decided to just put the case in the closet and buy a C3 Acrylic which comes with a 120mm fan hole in the front. But then I figured, why drop $200 on a new case. So I pulled it back out, theirs gotta be a way.

If I don't mount the rad it can sit there perfectly so on that note, here's my question.. Does the rad have to be mounted to a fan hole? Can I mount it 2-3 inches away from the actual fan hole? I believe it'll still get good air coming in from the front of the rad. I can put a 80mm fan there in the front also to help with airflow. Any suggestions??

as long as air flow is going through it, it will work. probably won't cool as well but you could always get a duct or something (they have acrylic) and put it between the fan and the heatercore to make it work. might want to attach the heatercore with something though just to prevent a little vibration. maybe just put some foam padding or acoustic foam underneath it.

So, you do need 2 fans? Or a fan on oneside and an open airflow on the other?

i have the same case, and faced the very same problem. but instead of putting the Rad in the front, i put in it the back.. it should be able to fit perfectly in the back right next to the IO panel and right under the PSU.

i eventually dremeled out the back for better airflow, but also stuck 2 120mm fans in push pull config.

i doubt you will be able to mount the rad in the front unless your willing to move the pws switch, or just make more work for yourself

2 fans are optimal, but you can run it with one and see what kind of temps you are getting. If you mount it back away from the case opening, make a duct to run from the opening to the intake fan on the rad.

This is the x-clear case from xoxide. Space is really tight in back, even if I got to fit it.. I have the power cables there from the psu. I'm working now on just mounting it in the front leaving the rad 2 inches away from the 80mm fan hole. 2 inches away leaves me enough space to clear the switches. In a way I doubt i'm going to get good temps with this setup, most likely i'll be shelling out the $200.

Personally I'd probably cut a larger hole and just skirt the switches. Just cut a big squarish "L" shape and leave the switches where they are and fill the hole with modders mesh or something. Or if you want it symetrical you could just cut out below the switches.

hmmm.. I think that might work. You by any chance have a link to who sells the mesh?

yes i know the case, i have the same one.

anyways, im using a Black Ice Pro radiator, and it fits inbetween the metal IO panel and the edge, right under the PSU on the back panel. there is very minor buldging off the side panel one it is on. i would measure the rad and the distance from the IO panel to the edge and see if ti fits. it shouldnt have a problem with a single 120mm radiator. but thats if you want to throw it in the back.

if you dont understand what im talking about, i can psot a pic of how i have it setup.

A pic would be swanky. I still look and don't know how you got that to fit.

Also remember the heatercore is slightly larger then the black ice (but works much better too). Those pics should be helpful.

Hey danger den makes a nice acrylic mount for the heatercores. It just takes 4 little holes and a decen size hole for good air flow. It also mounts the fan on there. I personally own one and its great.
