Default Help with GPU waterblock

Sup pimps,

I have the Koolance PC3-700 case with the Asus A8N-SLI mobo, AMD 64 3500, do I really need to buy a waterblock for the chipset? Will it make that much of a diffrence if I just use the fan that was installed on the mobo? and if I should install a chipset waterblock do I have to remove the old thermal grease thats on it and add new? thats a tight squeeze!
Thanks, D

you could just stick with the fan that's on there but you'll get better cooling with a waterblock.

if you do get the waterblock, then yes, remove the old stuff and apply new grease

i have another thread here that kind of discusses it, I honestly dont think its necessary (my fsb is running at 270x4 on air and i doubt id get any more on water) but im gonna get one anyways cause my chipset fan is about to die. most chipset fans are pretty cheap and will eventually fail, and it cant hurt to get the water assming it will fit (it probably will with some work) so if youve got the dough go for it, if not then dont

That chipset block uses a thermal pad/crapy paste so yes you will really want to replace it with better stuff.

And also the chipset does get very hot at max overclock. If you can fit it I would go ahead and upgrade it. It is always nice to know that heat is not holding you back from an overclock. If you don't plan on maxing out on your overclocking, then the stock chipset works great on that board.

I would say if you plan on breaking 2.8 gigs then I would get better cooling for oyur chipset.

Peace, Spike

Ok I have removed the thermal pad. thier is what looks like a square peace of metal glued to the chip should I remove that or is that the chip?

I wish i had the the board here in front off me so i don't tell you wrong info, but I think that the metal piece is something you should not take off. It makes it so you don't apply direct presure to the chip. Like ATI's metal bracket around their GPU's.

Also, use commence sense here. Like I said, I don't have the board in front of me as its in Cali for repair.
