| Direct Cool Hoe | Yup, wintertime indoors, ...that is the evaporator that is being feed by 110" of copper tubing, that has an i.d. of .028". The high side pressure was at 175PSI and the low side suction is at 7PSI. I just need to tune this baby with some load on the coolant and I'll see what kinda temps I can net. I am charged with R408a, and it is only about 10.00 a lb.... good to have Bros. in the business huh? I'll have a more indepth article out tommorro but for now ...peep these temps... . . . minus 40.1 C baby!! Last edited by ZENNZZO; 18-January-05 at 02:01 AM.. | |

| Just a nOOb question here, but what about the temp differential on the cpu? Wouldn't the socket get a little hot if your cranking some primo juice in there even though the top side of the cpu is staying cool? Just wondering... Rob P.S. You're one crazy son of a bitch, you know that Z? You seeing a therapist for this yet? Might want to look into that before you've got us all wearing parkas just to sit near out computers. ![]() | ||

Good question Rob... I AM the O/C therapist...I got just what you need ...Make no mistake, this isn't like ordinary xtreme cooling, the heat this bitch puts off is a no-parka show. it just happens to have a desired results on one end...6500BTU compressor has a warning on the label that states that it 'can' reach 300F, that's enough to get your attention if you put your wrist on it reaching for the on-off switches... See Iateronmlys post below...evidently warm on one side and cool on the other doesn't seem to have adverse effect...of course when I was up in the summertime to AK...there were still doods leaning on shards of yellow ice with that "DOH" look on their face... Actually -40c is really really cold...the codensation you see in the pics is just from the surounding ambient air. This kind of cooling is going to create a cold zone from the mosfet's to the dimms down to the AGP slot, that will have to be addressed for condensation... -40C and -40F are the same temps, your basic freezer is just a bit below +32F ... a Vapochill SE, and BA can attest to this is hard pressed to reach -21C at the evaporator and not under load... Something magical happens to silicon at these kinds of temps, I don't exactly know why but I'm about to embark on some serious research as to how far I can push said silicon... ![]()

| Nice. Are you going to isolate all that away from the Motherboard? You remember the problem I had with condensation... -40C is way down there, I could only get down to -20 without a CPU installed. With the CPU it would vary from a few below 0 to a few above. You will probably be able to stay at the -20 or better range with that kind of cooling. Possibly more since there must be a point where the heat generated has a diminished effect on the cooling. Basically, a point where the cold says "You're my bitch!" and slaps the heat around. | ||

Yes BigA, This is the lower level of the two levels. on top will be a testbench style mounting. I am going 1/2" closed cell foam and that is all sealed with marine adheasive. I'll keep it airy then wrap with the foil tape. What I found out about condesation, is there must be that cush of dead air between the cold and the ambient. Where we had problems before is the insulation had been squished too tight to the innerworkings, and the cold was passed right through that dense "patch". That's why the condensation showed up there. Vapochill has since changed the clamshell design so there isnot the need for that hard turn to the CPU... ROKK supplied me with enough .25" closed cell neoprene to cover the mobo, and enough conformal coating to get everthing isolated just in case... From everything I seen with the highliners -100C rigs, I got the insulation, tricks covered, then you know me...I added my twist or two of my own to insure nice clean runs...best part of good insulation it can deliver more chill right where you want it, by not wasting any cold to the Ambient. It doesn't have all the flash but it will have a NASA look anyway...Thanks again BA, look what ya done did now... ![]()
