| Apex Techie Wannabe | I have got together all the parts needed for a first watercooling setup. I bought a Koolance reservoir/dual pump combo unit from a dead (control board had fried!!) Koolance PC2 case and would like to know what voltage the pumps contained in the res. run at. I am in the UK where the standard mains power is 220-240V AC. I have connected 12v DC to the 2 wires (brown + blue) from the pumps and get one movement from the pumps then nothing so I am pretty sure they are AC but I need to know if the original control board from the PC2 case was supplying 240V AC (in which case it should be easy) or whether the control board supplied a lower AC voltage. Any help will be much appreciated. .... and yes I have e-mailed Koolance but have not had a reply yet! | |

Koolance pumps are 12 volt DC. Either you are mixing up the + or - and wiring them backwards or you have dead pumps.

| Apex Techie Wannabe | ...thats what I assumed but apparently not. I have found this however...... http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/oth...ce-pc2c_7.html | |

Good find...and poor design. My bad, I never dreamed Koolances pumps used an external inverter to make them 12 volt. That's gotta put a nasty load on the 12 volt rail. I guess you could try for a replacement board from Koolance. Or you could just buy a real pump instead.

I would likely splurge and get the Danger Den 12V pump. I trust Zennzzo's judgement .... and he speaks very highly of it. Otherwise, go with Danner Magdrive, Eheim, or or Hydor. All are AC. If you have lots of money ...... Iwaki are nice. What is left from Koolance then? Just the rad? Or water blocks too?

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Thanks. The DD 12V looks quite impressive (small too) from what I have read so far! The only thing I got from the old Koolance is the reservoir and pumps + the plexiglass bracket to mount it horizontally instead of vertically. The Rad and fans were already gone and control board was dead anyway. I got the CPU water block (ver 300) and the NB water block. I have just taken delivery of a Koolance GPU water block. I already had a Black Ice 120.1 Rad and fan. Last edited by StuntMonkey; 03-January-05 at 06:07 AM.. | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I also had a Koolance Resv. with 2 little Pumps. And I wondered what Voltage is needed. Now I know: 220V is VERY BAD !!!! Pumps started to run for a few seconds, then: BANG. Lights off ![]() So use a 220->110 Volt Convertor or a even lower Voltage. Hope this helps you. My Pumps are dead now ![]() Willi Last edited by WiLD; 06-April-05 at 01:44 PM.. | |
