| Apex Techie Wannabe | ok im new to the boards and to water-cooling along with that so please be gentle, but anyway, for Christmas i decided to put together a water cooled system because i thought they looked sweet and i was tired of having my computer sound like a vacuum cleaner while at 61 degrees. I bought the danger den maze..... 4......3.....the newest one they have out and i also got the black ice pro radiator. So im all pumped and i set it up and it goes in perfect no leeks no nothing (thank god) but when i turn it on, it just loads for like 5 seconds and then turns off. So since i have a gigabyte mother board, and an amd, i clocked the processor way down to like 1.39 ghz and it started to load up, so then i went into my bios to check what the temp was on my cpu AND IT WAS AT 78 AND CLIMBING. will someone please tell me why my water cooling system is hotter than what my old pain in the ass fan was. PLEASE. System specs: amd 3200+ not over clocked gig of kinston pc3200 radeon 9800 pro gigabyte gn700 L aspire 500 wat power supply 2 seagate 80 gig hard drives and some other stuff that doesnt matter | |

| Could be a couple things. My first thought would be you're not getting good contact between block and processor. Pull it off and check the pattern in the grease. It should have a perfect impression of the processor die and be very thin and even. Make sure the tubing is not putting uneven pressure on the block. The block should hang roughly parrallel to the die BEFORE you tighten it down. Other than Rob's "stupid" question, I don't see any other explanation that would account for such high temps. | ||

I don't know how you have your setup is.... set.... up... But try some 45° or 90° elbows so you don't have to try and tweak the tubing itself. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Lokie's Personal WU-Hoe | Even if he had everything flowing backwards, the temps still should not be that high. Considering that, along with what the hydro pimps have said all along about "once the system warms up, the order of specific parts of the loop is negligible if anything at all". As everyone else has said, this is a contact issue between the proc and waterblock. Chances are the tubing is pulling it away, tipping the block, or something that does not allow it good contact. I had this problem with tubing from Home Depot and everything had to be positioned just right so they would go together in a safe fashion. One of my friends made a custom waterblock, and once his Swiftech MCP300 pump broke he didn't bother buying a new one since the computer runs just fine without water flowing and fans cooling the 'heatsink'. This is on a P4 ~2.6ghz setup. Make sure that Vcore isn't too high either. | |
