| Ok, your "Status" is simply tied to your post count in the forums. But that isn't how you get respect. In fact, if you go on a posting binge, you'll just get flamed. You will get respect through helping others, helping the site, or demonstrating some mad pimpin' skillz with your rig. As to the water cooling; There are plenty of water cooling threads in the Extreme Cooling forum. Some good info at Overclocker's.Com , and Putwig and myself try and cover cooling problems. BigAkita, ViperZ, and Digital World are also solid cooling veterans as well as a few others here. The risks ? Very simply, you can do a lot to minimize the risks which are mostly limited to hardware damage, and divorce due to excess funds expenditures But you can not eliminate them entirely. Because of the nature of water cooling, and the extra equipment, you will be inside your computer more often then if you were not water cooling. That alone increases your risks to damage. We stay with non-conductive fluids, but that is not a guarantee that if you have a spill or leak, that something won't get hurt. There are many ways to set up a water cooling rig, the one that's best for you will be determined by why you want to water cool and how portable you still want your system to be, and how much money your will to spend. So, do some reading and come on back, we'll help you through it if you still want to water cool. | ||

| Thanx alot for th info. I was guessing that the *status had something to do with the posts, but i am not really *status hungry* or anything so i wouldnt go on a spree. as to water-cooling, i am seriosly considering buying a system. I dont want to buy a cheap one, as it might destroy something inside my rig, but would rather buy a 250 instead of a 120 dollar one. | ||

| Very few kits contain the best of everything. In fact, most kits have one or more weak components. Put when your selecting components, if you have to order from more then two websites, the shipping charges really start to pile up, and your not getting much extra for the additional expense. Here is what it comes down to; Carefully decide what you are trying to accomplish by water cooling. For some people, it's just best to skip it. Here are some basic questions that you need to answer so you can decide what "catagory" so to speak, that you fall in. 1. Are you solely after the highest performance? 2. Do you just want good quiet cooling. 3. Do you just want to do it because it sounds fun/challenging? Those questions help determine the performance aspects of what you need. Here are some that help clarify the exact components that you will need. 1. Does your system have to remain portable, ie.... a completely enclosed system ? 2. Do you need to be able to remove the cooling system easily, or is it a perminent addition? 3. Does it have to look really good ? 4. What is your budget ? 5. Is your system located in a hotter then average environment ? See if you can decide on some answers to these questions, or rate them by importance in each category, something that tells us what your after, then we can come up with some recommendations. Water cooling is rarely cheap and there are a number of dependancies involved. Even your motherboard can effect your options so please don't be in a hurry or your liable to end up buy something that won't work right, that gets even more expensive ![]() | ||

| Wow, thx alot for youre advice Icpiper. Now to answder those questions... I want good cooling, sound is not such a big factor... the quiter the better, but i can live with a little noise. I also want to undergo this project becouse i am quite new to modding, and it sounds like a project that would be interesting, and turn out to be cool in the end. i am the kind of person who would never buy a pre-modded rig. I would rather do all the dirty work myself, becouse even if it turns out not so professional, i still have my pride in knowing i did it myself. i would like it to loook preety good. My buget is this: I can work preety much when i want, and if i find something i like, ill work long enough to get it. Right now i have about 150 $, but i could pop out and do some joe-jobs anytime and work it up to like 300-350. If you look in my profile youll see the lo-down on my rig. all i have modded is that I stealthed my cd-rom drive, and was quite proud of myself whn it turned out looking nice. | ||

| I also have another question for my wise modding gurus. Is there anywhere that sells modding stuff in a store rather than online...or like a data-base of strores...? couse i find onlie ordering extreamly tedious, as i have to use my dads credit-card (he is never happy about that) | ||

| not per se. You gotta source out electronics retailers (not radioshack.......real electronics stores) and hardware stores to find your mod supplies. The only stuff I ended up ordering online was my waterblock, my radiator, and my neons. By the way, I am one of the other water cooling guys if you have any other questions. Looks like Piper has you sorted out so far. | ||

| Ok, it sounds good, but I need a few more of those questions answered still. Particularly in reguards to portability, does it all have to fit inside, or would a completly external unit with a pair of hoses running in to the water block work well. That kind of stuff helps a lot as there are a number of possibilities. | ||

| I am a little more active then normal these days. I am away from home for three months on business. And in my business, if it ain't broke, you don't fix it. Then there is all the time I am in the Hotel room "on call". Besides, like any other guy, I like to have my ego stroked now and again. It isn't the only thing I like to have stroked, but we don't need to go into that ![]() | ||
