Default Watercooling maintenance

I have a few questions about filling and bleeding and refilling.

Given that my radiator is going to be placed in my case like this:

http://www.deckadance.com/curious/pi.../project3.html

Then what would be the best approach to filling everything up with water and getting rid of air? I know some people use resevoirs, others use fill and bleeds, some people use T connects, and others just submerge all components....

I'd go with the submerge all components.... but that brings up another question: How often do you have to empty and refill the system? I plan on using distilled water with water wetter and a subtle blue dye--it won't be that thick dense green antifreeze look, so if it got "gunky" then it would probably show pretty easily. Is there a way to easily empty and refill the system without having to disconnect everything?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice you can give me

Very nice rad mount!

Here is an article on filling and bleeding:

Change your fluid every 3-4 months.

Reservoirs are the easiest way to do the routine maintenance that would otherwise get passed up.
If it's easy to do, it will get done.
What ever system you do choose, make sure to do it.

The bottom two will, and that's fine because I only have one optical drive that I intend to use, it's a plextor 708a combo drive which should be fine for a while. This was a HUGE concern of mine. The top three bays are likely going to be used to suspend hard drives using elastic, OR for a resevoir of some sort--if I go with the res, then I'll move the HDDs to the bottom cage that sits below the 3.5 cage (it's not in the pictures... but the hard drives ARE somehow going to be suspended... noise is a big deal... my current set up sounds like a blow dryer).

Thanks for the compliment on my rad mount! It's my first REAL modding adventure and I'm really trying to do everything right.

I'm still undecided on a pump! It's either going to be an Eheim or the Swiftech. I kind of want to mount the radiator VERTICALLY in the back of the case where the exhaust fans would normally be....

Putwig, great article. Yeah... I too am living and learning, I wish I could have mounted the radiator in the front, but that just wasn't an option for me really. I waas thinking of maybe squeezing a fill and bleed kit between my PSU and the Radiator set up with maybe the quickconnects sticking out of the top of the case. I'd likely have to make my own because I want to use 1/2 inch tubing... Makes me nervous... I finally finished the external cutting on my case and am not anxious to cut it up any more, but I think I may be able to make it functional.

Here is another n00b question.. the entire impingement block thing, I really don't understand it and I've read quite a bit... is this just a block that creates more resistance for the pump? Also, what would you all say is about the largest setup that an Eheim 1046/48 might could power. Maybe I should go with 3/8" tubing... Argh! Weeks of research and I end up more confused every day

[edit: Where did you get those quick connects?]
[edit2: Oh never mind, home depot... I read the responses to your article]

i hinestly havnt tried yet, but the way its set up with the single hole on the top i cant see any way that i could easily change fluids, especially since its a small hole

Did you ever think about just shutting the system down and removing the inlet to the pump and draining it into a jug? Then use some distilled H20 to rinse it.
pour the distilled through a funnel into the reservoir ...pour some in and turn on the pump, capture what comes down the hose...rinse and repeat. Short bursts work great.
