Default Swifty mcp600 v.1 vs v.2 noise levels

I've never seen it mentioned anywhere, so I'm assuming that the 2 units have about the same noise level, is there anyone who has used both here that can confirm?

I have the v.1 and the noise is driving me nuts. One of my reasons for switching to watercooling was to get away from all the fan noise. Not replace it w/ vibration noise.

I guess I could move to another pump, but I like not having any sort of relay switch.

Thanks

I would imagine the v. 2 has exactly the same noise level as the v. 1. The change from first to second was not major and did not include changing the motor.

The D4 pump from DangerDen has similiar characteristics. I can not however recommend it as I haven't used it. And even if I had, I would hold off on any recommendation until it had proven itself over time. Most DC powered pumps that have been introduced to water cooling have failed miserably. They just don't seem to hold up over time. I hope the D4 is an exception to the rule.

Asetek makes a pump with a built in relay. But it's a bit pricey and you'd have to change out the barbs for 1/2". Frozencpu stocks it.

Have you tried mounting on foam or rubber? An old mouse pad works well. Any pump will have a bit of vibration noise that can often be quieted with a little ingenuity. My MagDrive is nice and quiet. It's mounted with velcro.

The DD12vdc pump has been around for a long time. The pump has a MTBF (mean time before failure) of 40, 000 hours. This is many times greater than the other DC pumps that are currently being used in watercooling.

And the difference between rev 1 and 2 on the MCP600 is the thrust bearing on the shaft. On the rev 1 it was a plastic material, the rev 2 it is a ceramic material. Rev 1 had issues with the plastic thrust bearing wearing down (and fast) and allowing parts to move (ie, make noise), and eventually fail.

that a little over 4.5 years of straight running.

Noob question for you guys, about how much power (wattage) does the pump take? Looking into a water cooling kit and I'm getting a new PSU so just wondering if I'm gonna need a high wattage psu or do you guys recommed getting one of those adpters to plug in the wall?

Yes, acutally. I have the pump secured to a 5x5" peice of aluminum (to spread out the surface area, this did help), which has a mousepad glued to the bottom side, which is sitting on the bottom of my case on top of what's supposed to be noise reduction foam.

If I move the PC up from the floor to my desktop, I can feel the vibration pretty clearly by touching the top anywhere (the desk is actually a table, about 5 foot by 3 foot, and is solid wood.)

I had contacted swiftech support about the noise level, they claimed it would drop off. I must have at least a few hundred hours of operation now, and it's maybe 5-10% quieter than when I first powered it up. Maybe I just got a bum pump?

get an l30 with the pci card controller.... many advantages, it doesnt rely on ur psu, it isnt a 12v pump and is designed for long term continuous use, and u can turn it on when the system is off to test for leaks

How big is the L30 in comparison to the swifty? there's not alot of room in my case.

At any rate, I'm going to stick a rheostat on my swifty and see if it's more the frequency of the sound rather than the volume.. I figure with only a slight adjustment down I may improve it. If not, I'm definately either going to fit a different pump (l30/ehiem, but it looks like the eheims are big..) or go back to aircooling. my zalman heatsink was damn near silent.

Rheostat worked like a charm. It's been cold here the past few days, so my ambient temps are a little lower than normal, but the lower flo rate doesn't seem to have impacted my temps too negatively. Finally, I can hear myself think...

Weird, I have an MCP600 and I've never been able to hear it. I have it mounted directly on the bottom of the case, with just the foam layer that came attached to the pump for insulation, and I've had no problems. I guess that can change from case to case though.

It could be I just got a dud pump I've had it cut out twice on me due to loose pins on the molex connector.. my next pump won't be from swiftech..
