The res/rad is anodized extruded finned aluminum and the block is a 1/4" lined copper block with anodized aluminum top. It also has a 300 liter pump... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The Zalman block scores very well in reviews. But the only reviews I've seen of the big passive rad were not very impressive. Nordic hardware tested with one of the coolest running AMD chips available, the 1700 and came up with 8-9 degrees over what a RBX system scored. Couple that with a hot AMD chip and a healthy overclock and things could get ugly. | ||

| It is the perfect kit for someone who wants a perfectly quiet system and is not OCing or running a naturally hot chip, except...... That you can do better with the Innovatek MAXI rad, and mid-sized pump, (do to the smaller diameter tubing and fittings, and a solid block like the new Swiftech MCW6000 or a 3/8" Maze3. Either of those blocks can be had for $40, several pumps will fit the bill for give or take, around $60. The Ehiem 1046, 1048, L20, MCP600, or D4 can all work fine. There are certainly others. So, $190 for the RAd and another $100 for the pump and block, and all you might want is a reservoir and you still have $30 or $40 to play with. Of course you can do with solid 1/2" systems even cheaper that will outperform it, and can be almost just as quiet with the right fans, and no chance of it not being tough enough | ||

| If you want quiet I'd think just get a multi fan rad and slap on quiet fans; a 120.3 thermochill with 6x Vantec Stealths should do pretty good... oh, and check Zalmans GPU block, pretty weird.. http://www.xoxide.com/zmgwb1.html | ||

| I see four main divisions in water cooling. High Performance These are the direct-die coolers, TEC cooling, and that High-flow Impingment group. Mid range These are the 10mm 3/8" crowd like Innovatec, Swiftech, some of the DD products. They will cool a standard rig with good results, will support overclocking but will not see anyone into the record books. Low end This is where I lump in all the lower performing kits, the Thermaltake, Evercool, entry level crowd. Most are not worth the money. Passive Enginered Cooling For passive water cooling, the leader here is Innovatek, followed by Zalman which is pretty much on top in all other passive arenas. Although it is not really water cooling, the Zalman TNN500A case fits this same grouping of hardware. The guy that buys this gear is not out to OC his gear, he just wants a quiet solution and these products fit the bill. This grouping blurs the lines between water cooling and heat-pipe solutions. It is their purpose more then their format that places them into this catagory. Last edited by lcpiper; 28-April-04 at 08:56 AM.. | ||
