Default OD? ID? help please

I want to do 1/2 tubing, and I bought tubing and I realized that its got 1/2"OD and 3/8"ID. did i buy 3/8" tubing thinking it was 1/2" or did I buy the right one?

Most vendors refer to tubing size in ID. So what you got is 3/8" tubing. But to confuse the issue companies such as Swiftech have a nasty habit of referring to tubing size by outside diameter.

If you want half inch for say a DangerDen RBX, you want 1/2" ID tubing. Most common is a 1/8" wall or 5/8" OD. Tubing also comes in 1/16" wall and 3/32" wall for 1/2" ID.

Blocks and rads with 1/2" barbs require 1/2" ID tubing. Kwik connects like some Swiftech and others measure by OD.

Confused yet?

What is the difference in the wall thickness? How much psi runs in a Water Cooled rig on averaged (or if it depends on a block and pump say the D4 pump and the RBX block)? Which wall thickness is easiest to bend without kinking?

Sorry if my post sounds like a test in school

Generally the thicker the wall, the more resistant to kinkage it is and has a smaller bend radius. I like my tubing thick (currently 1/8"). Is it necessary? No. Some people think it looks "bulky". I've seen as little as 1/16" thick tubing used without any "accidents". To each his own.

If you got your tube from Home Depot then it has to be that vinyl crap. Unless you are not going to be making any even semi hard turns I would suggest going with some clearflex. Way cheaper then Tygon but lightyears ahead of vinyl.

That's a good place and so is www.mcmaster.com. Make sure you check out minimum length and increments it's sold by. Most watercooling retailers also sell tubing of some sort by the foot, so you may want to just pick up some while ordering your other parts and same some money on shipping. If all else fails your nearest Home Depot sells vinyl tubing, which will get the job done just as well.
