Default radiator laying flat

heres the deal, ive got a heater core i think came out of a thunderbird or something similar, its about 10x8 1/2, and it wont fit in my case, so ive got this box im planning on puttin it in externaly, but the only way it fits is laying flat, well kind of at an angle to, where the barbs are they are setting about 2 1/2 inches upward, will this hurt me in anyway?? will it restrict the flow or anything?

please excuse my stupidness im a newbie to water

First, welcome to PimpRig.

Laying a radiator flat should not affect the flow of your water system, unless you've got a pump with little head. Why not just get a smaller rad? I've heard that Chevette heater cores are small, and cheap. One of the water pimps miught be able to help out a bit more though...I'm still an H2o n00b too.

For one, radiators and heater cores were mainly engineered to use gravity to move the coolant thru the core tubes (this takes alot stress away from the pump.....and how did you intend on cooling the radiator with airflow when it's lying flat???

Laying flat is fine, as long as you ensure good airflow.

I have run horizontal mount rads suspended from my top blowhole. I have also run a horizontal mounted Chevette HC externally. I essentially cut a hole (slightly smaller than the rad) in the table top. Lay the rad flat on the table (over the hole) with a shrouded fan on top of the rad.

I plan to horizontally mount a Caprice HC on the floor of my next project case.

Good block. Simple design. Somewhat dated. For $25, the TC4 is the better block.

If you can measure the fin length/width/depth I can probably find out where it came from, where you can find one, and size of the barbs...possibly a pic too.

The measurements you posted first aren't correct, as no heater core has those dimensions that I can find. Remember to only measure the fins.
