Would shatter the core. Submerge the system in dry-ice cooled HFE, and then try it with a block.

I get an idea, and it gets shot down in a single post. Such is life.

Not that I'd be able to try such a thing. All I got lying around worth trying it on is a 2ghz celeron of DOOM AND TERROR

THG did a liquid nitro overclock on a pentium 4 and hit 5ghz stabily. The concerning factor though was the ice cystals as sharp as razors which had grown on the cappacitors and MOSFET. They didnt direct cool, they used a half inch think bit of copper with a 24" tal copper cylinder. It was the only possible way to do it. Liquid n2 doesnt stay liquid for long either. THG did it for about 2 hours - by which time all but 200ml of n2 had evaporated because of the room temperature.

If your thinking about something along the lines of water cooling with a pump think again. you would need an ICI plant to recool the nitrogen. (ICI plants tending to be 50'000 square foot of solid cooling equipment)

I know you wouldn't be able to use liq n2 as a permanent cooling solution, nev. In fact, the reason you can safely put liq n2 in your mouth is because it turns gas quickly enough that it makes a layer of gas that keeps the liquid off your tongue. I was just wondering if anything like Kayin said would happen, where the cold is enough that putting it to work could make the chip shatter.

Vacuums and pcs dont mix, you relise how much static electricity is in those hoses...more then enough. Trust me

it doesnt... it gets worse. Thermoses are 2 cans, one big, one small, and inbetween is a vacuum... thats why it insulates so well.. heat / cold doesn't really work through it, so basically its like throwing a blanket on..

I was thinking sealing the components in a vacuum, that way there'd be no air & no ambient moisture, so you could cool severely without worrying about condensation. All this is hypothetical, I'm just trying to get ye olde creative juices flowing around here.

You wouldn't be able to get a perfect vacuum, nor maintain it long enough. TheOutcast is right, vacuums mess everything up

You couild design a liquid nitrogen sealed cooling system... Would have to insulate the heack out of the tubes and use a tubing material that will not shatter at the extreme cold...

Your best bet is to attempt phase change cooling.

Blondes have more fun.

Well you can sleep with a blonde or you can sleep with a brunette.
But you'll never get any sleep with a redhead..

Not very logical. Without the aid of air you would have to build a "cooling highway" out of the vacuum sealed chamber (one that can resist the pressure difference as well), which transfers the heat from every part of your system. Sounds exceedingly difficult. Something that may work better, however, would be a sealed, insulated PC that is refrigerated. Kind of like those Vapochill cases.

Edit: I prefer green hair personally.
