| Hey guys, I wasn't sure exactly which forum this fits in the best, hope this is ok. Here's the deal: I need to power 4 180W pelts. I'd like to use the cheapest means possible. So, what I was wondering is how difficult would it be to build a dedicated PSU for the pelts capable of 60A @ 12v (or 30A @ 24v)? Would a large transformer rated that high and a bridge rectifier work well enough or would there still be too much noise to run a pelt? I don't think they're that precise, but I'd hate to burn 'em out. Thanks. | ||

| Home brew Slurpee machine..... ![]() Cooling a large, channeled w/c res. for multiple systems or possibly for a dual CPU rig..... really just fookin' around ATM. If it works cool, if not, I won't loose any sleep over it. The reason something like a vapochill is out is the multiple sys or CPU thing. I don't wanna put a pelt directly on the CPU because I'd rather have the additional cooling also available for the vid card(s) and not just heat the water even more for them. And I'd also like to see if I could get both the CPU(s) and GPU(s) at or slightly below ambient. I know, I'm askin' alot, but since I have the pelts lying around I figure I might as well play with them. ![]() I'm not nessicarily gonna use all the pelts, but I'd like to have the juice available to do so. | ||

One what? Homemade Slurpee machine? :roflmao: Sorry, guys, but if this doesn't work I've got more conventional uses I can put them to. EDIT: Why is it I can never get the smilies to work from the post window..... ugh. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Yes it is possible to buld a psu for your pelts. The transformer with a bridge would be the start, but you will need a little cleaner power than that to get max efficiency.Look around on the orb for schematics, a good place to start is www.epanorama.net . Or if size isnt really a factor you could go and buy a cheap 12v auto battery charger that has a 60-100 amp start function,it may have a auto on function you may have to modify in order to get it to come on with the pelts.I have seen some that have a high amp jump start function for around $30 | ||

| Thanks Lunamods, I'll check it out..... For the rest of you, I've come up with a great idea! Indtead of simply venting the excess heat into my home, how about using metal reserviors with flat sides.... two of them sandwiching the pelts..... one for cooling and the other.... THE CROCK-POT PC!!!!! ![]() Hey, thanks Anonymous..... That ought to help a lot! Last edited by CRE; 12-April-04 at 02:05 AM.. | ||
