Default water cooling adventuers

so i am thinking of doing a water cooled system. i have my case ( an antec 1080b soho case ) that i think is large enough. i have my mb ( another soyo dragon platinum ). i have found a radiator to use at the local auto parts store ( it is supposed to be used for a transmission oil cooler it is 12" long x 5 1/2" wide x 3/4" thick ). 2 120 mm fans for the radiator. as for my water block...well i am going to try to make my own design something really unique and special i have a few ideas and will keep everyone updated as i move on. i am also thinking of doing some memory coolers also, ( let me know what you think about that one ). as well as a gpu cooler. i think that this mod will be the breaking point for me in my moddin' skills finding all the parts to do it my self with out buying a kit is the test of all tests i would think . i am going to do a resivoir <(check spelling) type of system and i still need to find a cool way to make a water tank....
the window design for the case will be really unique and verry different from the norm as well. and i will only use leds for the lighting of the interior of the case. green leds only no more blooo for me.....;P i still have to round up a video card, ( geforce 4 ti 4400 i think ) cpu ( amd 2100 + xp ) memory ( pc 2700 ddr ) as well as various other items but i will hack one of my other systems for for other parts...
stay tuned for updates and let me know what you think and give me your advice........

Why dont you try to cool the CPU without a pump and reservoir?

If that works, then move on to the GPU, etc.

I am serious and it is do-able.

Yes but can you cool an Athlon XP with no fan or water block, just passive cooling?

Yes you can Wixx.

It is a function of having enough surface area for dissapation and a big enough temperature differential between the passive cooling material (heatsink) and the transfer medium (air, liquid, etc).

Think about those guys that have been successful at submersion cooling

Default small refridge

well i was at the local drug store today and i found a very small electric cooler that you could put a six pack in and hook it up to the lighter socket in your car.... well being the person that i am i figuered i could use the cooling circuit to cool a water resivoir for a liquid cooled system............. well what are your thoughts about that folks...

Should work fine. Get some copper tubing, make a coil out of it, tap it through the walls and Violla !. A chiller.

As you will then be cooling below ambient, you will need to insulate and protect against condensation.

Default condensation

well i have some neoprean to put around the water res. to help cut down on any condensation that may occure ( spelling ? ) and as i said i will only be cooling the resivoir directly so that the water is cooled before it hits the cpu water block. i have designed a block that i am going to make that will incorporate a low profile heat sink on top of it with a fan that will turn on incase of pump failure.now i just have to buy the copper and start milling out my design.

if you are going to be using water in your system that is below ambient (and it will be) you will likely need to insulate all the water tubes, the motherboard (specially around the socket), the socket itself, and the water block itself!

I carried my system from down stairs (cool) to upstairs (hot). By the time I got to the top of the stairs, there were literally water drops on my block!

This was purely because the water was at room temperature downstairs, but well below ambient temperature upstairs. And ambient room air moisture condensed on the (relatively) cool block.
