Question How much power would be needed?

Hello fellow pimps, Id like to introduce myself I am new to the site. I do however have an interesting question for ya. About what size of power supply would you say would be needed to run: (10) 80mm LED fans, (1) 92mm LED fan, a Innovatek water cooling system, (6) Cold Cathodes, (1) 6 Switch Baybus, and then all the generic stuff (cd-rw,MB,vid card,etc..). Just a question out of curiousity , was Hoping a Vantec 520W would do the job but I don't have to much experience with power supplys.

Oh yeah and add on to that a 20x4 Crystal Fontz LCD, along with a 5" LCD that Silkworm had posted in the "Other PC Mod Gallery"

What else is going into the comp? That plays a factor into it as well...

welcome dryice, i would like to introduce myself, I am the resident new equipment tester, send all your stuff to me and I will let you know if it runs or not. I dont mind at all!

in all seriousness tho, 520 should doo pretty well, thats a rather large load but wait for a more "professional" response. but from this end, 520 sounds ample.

The wattage numbers above are estimates and may be rounded to the nearest 5 watts. The given wattage may only reach the specified level during power-up or during peak usage. Always purchase a power supply with a bit more wattage than you calculate you'll need, to make room for future upgrades.
PS Dont forget anything

Pulled off a different thread, but I too think 520W should be plenty

The water cooling set up won't use any power. The pump is the only powered component, and It hooks to a wall socket, not the PSU.

Also, a fanbus/baybus is not a power consumer.

Now, first order of business as a newb......figure out how to use the forum search function!

We have covered this topic 20 times!

Here is the link:

http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread....ighlight=watts

This covers everything except cold cathodes (about 5 watts), and your LCD's.....I don't know the answer to that.

I suspect a 520 watt Antec would be fine.......but you should do the math.

Figure 300W minimum to run the generic stuff. Watercooling set-up figure 0W unless you buy a twelve volt pump. Innovatek kits run off A/C. 0W again for the bay bus. A bay bus doesn't use power except for the LED's which is minimal. Simply add up the rest of the devices to get a total wattage and give yourself plenty of overhead. The cold cathodes should have a wattage rating. If the fans don't have a wattage rating they should have a amp rating. To find the wattage, multiply the amperage by the voltage. P=VI A .2 amp fan at 12 volts would be rated at 2.4 watts at full speed.

Also figure the nominal wattage of a PSU at less than advertised in most cases. Wattage ratings often refer to "peak" output potential and are not what they are designed to work at day in day out.

Without doing the math. I'd say the Vantec 520 would be more than enough.

EDIT: Follow Putwig's advice. Holy simultaneous post Batman!
