Default H2o pump question

ive got a submersible pond pump and was wondering if it would be good to use for cooling on my rig...
810 Gph@1' head,3/4NPT inlet-1/2 NPT outlet
it would be in a seperate unit with the res. and radiator.
and since its 110v power isnt a prob.
heres a link to the pump
pump
its under submersible/industrial
model#504216
any input would be appreciated.
thanks

It would work, but damn, that is some overkill. The pump may be too strong. The water would run through the block so quickly that there would be little thermal transferance.

You could use the pump, but I would get a high quality block with maximum turbulance like the Danger Den Maze2. If you were to go external then it would work a little better because of the increased tube length.

Would it work?

Yes.

Is it the best choice.

Probably not.

Here's why.

Submersible pumps put quite a bit of heat into the system. Inline pumps are generally a better choice for this reason. At 800gph even a 1/2" system would have a lot of back pressure. More pressure=more heat. You want a system that is "free" flowing, not necessarily "fast" flowing. And the chance of leaks with a 800gph pump are much greater than with a lower flow pump.

But....
...little giant makes a good pump in my experience. You could wire a light dimmer to the pump and dial back the flow rate. It would probably work with a 1/2" system.

The dimmer was a good idea AntiM. Hadn't thought of that.

I agree with everything said prior.

I think you could make it work.......don't even think of anything less than 1/2".

Great idea with the dimmer switch AntiM!
