What dye are you using? What coolant are you using? Is it a brand new loop or were you just adding dye to an existing setup?

| Well, I've found in personal experience, that new loops, absorb the dye rather quickly. The tubing will turn blue first, then any plastic fittings, then the inside of the pump will too, depending on the dye. And without constantly re-cying it, until it stays it reallly won't hold. I used three bottle's of yellow dye before i got a true UV yellow affect, and the tubing is forever yellow, thus why i went to clear fluid, and used UV reactive oil free makeup as an additive, which worked great... If you want a blue fluid loop, best bet is to buy a blue fluid to begin with. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | I got a question on the D-Tec UV dye, it doesn't say if it's anti-algae, anti-corrosive, etc. like the Swiftech Hydrx. But does it protect the WC system like Hydrx? If not, what to mix with it? Or would it be better to buy clear Fluid XP and mix it with the D-Tec UV Blue dye? Last edited by coolxal; 22-August-07 at 12:34 AM.. | |

No, D-Tek sell their 'Supercool' water treatment seperately. Throw some de-algae shiz in with it. Also, use the whole bottle of dye! Don't be sparing with it, srsly.

Dye is just that... dye only. Your best bet is to throw in either another additive with the dye, or go with PC Ice, FluidXP or your own homebrew concoction. As for the dye though - start with only 1-2 drops (unless there are instructions that state otherwise) Too much dye in your loop (especially UV sensitive stuff) will make the cool glowing effect less pronounced, it may even dull it right down ![]() The coolant in this pic (about 1 Litre in total) used only 4 drops of fluidXP dye... it stayed that colour right up until algae forced me to change the coolant out. Subsequently I've been using the same recipe with no problems ![]()

| I would just paint the tube w/ UV paint. http://www.uvgear.co.uk/product/product81.htm ![]() | ||

I can definitely say that with the D-Tek you need to wack the whole bottle in there. It's a small-ass bottle, and until I'd put the whole thing in it just kept fading. Putting the whole thing in hasn't made a difference to my temps at all whatsoever.

Can't say that I've used teh D-Tek stuff - but a lot of dyes are very concentrated - if you are after the cool glowing effect, start with a few drops and go from there. Once it's all in, you can't take it out ![]()

| You put more in. More and more until it shows up. If you have a really crappy dye then just forget it and get something better. I put in the whole bottle of D-Tek UV Visible Blue dye just to get it to show up properly. It's not a big bottle. Prolly like a shot-glass amount. I think a certain amount of the dye is naturally absorbed into the tubing and the pump and other such hidden crevices, which probably isn't too good thinking about it, anyway once you put in more than can be absorbed you'll be fine. Just take it slowly and keep adding more if you have an easy-access fill-point. Like a capful at a time carefully. Too much dye (would have to be quite a lot) may effect your temps and the water's thermal conductivity so be careful. Also, KillerT just linked me to this, so have a read through it. Nasty gunk in my loop, with pics - XtremeSystems Forums In fact that's scaring the crap outta me and I'm gonna redo my loop tomorrow to see if mine is like that. EDIT: I took apart the loop last night, drained it all, and yes indeed there was gunk lining all the tubing, a thin film of blue muck. In the CPU block on the pins there were a couple of little lumps too. Lastly, a tiny bit in the pump. Cleaned it all out PROPERLY with a good alcohol soak and put in new tubing and I'm now sitting 5c lower idle :O Let this be a warning, D-Tek dye is utter sh*t! I had to put the whole bottle in to get it to show up, and even then it wasn't as vibrant as I had hoped. Now running a clean loop with no dye at all, just deionized water and a few drops of trusty ol' treatment. Last edited by Mr. Fiddles; 09-September-07 at 07:18 AM.. | ||
