Default Cleaning radiator

Thanks to PurpleDiamond, I just inherited a watercooling system. I took the thing apart today and threw out all the tubing (there was white stuff all in the inside). Luckly he gave me more tubing. I took apart the waterblock and right now I have ketchup sitting inside of it to clean it. (OCModShop - Cleaning Copper Waterblocks: Cleaning) I was a bit confused on how to clean the rad, So I looked around here. Luckly, someone had already asked.

However, I dont have the cord for the pump, so I cant use the pump. So following AntiM's Advice I put a mix of 60mL of Listerine and 180mL of water (tap- Does it make a difference?) Not all of it filled the rad, but is it wise to use listerine to clean out the rad (its not in a loop, everything is seperate)?

So to clean the pump, would I just have to fill up a small loop with listerine and water and let it run for 30 minutes?

Listerine wound hurt anything running in your rad. You should always avoid any tap water in the loop though. Distilled water is cheap, rinse everything out well before you fill it up with your final coolant mix and you should be okay.

Your idea to clean the pump should work fine.

yes and in that small loop, add the rad, flushing is the term, but once done, you need to continuously flush clean tap water through it, a hose helps out in this situation.

My chiller rad i flushed with listerine/water, 1/4, and then flushed with around 2 minutes of water from my hose. Its sparkly clean inside, but the ketchep on the block is funny(heard it before though). Rubbing alcohol and a toohthbrush(old one) works fine for me.

I've done the kethup thing several times, works like a charm. Never tried the listerine though, will have to give that a go next time I flush a system. The last time I cleaned a rad I just rigged a garden hose to one of the barbs and turned in on full blast. I figured the pressure should get all the gunk out....

The listerine trick works wonders for sterilisation - plus it leaves your loop nice and minty fresh

Should a fan shroud be used on the rad? It has mounts for a 120mm fan, but should I still use a shroud?

Yes, if you aren't restricted by space.
