Default nonconductive fluid questions

Thinking of trying out some nonconductive fluid in one of my rigs. I've been using water in other systems, but never tried this stuff before. It's the rig I take back and forth to school with me, so riding in the car presents an interesting challenge. If it leaked during the ride I could have a mess on my hands with normal water.

Anyways, I've been reading up on pcice and fluidxp. They both claim to be noncorrosive, but what about algae? Can it grow in this stuff? Obviously I could add some anti-algae solution, but will that mix with with nonconductive fluid as well as it does with water?

Any help is appreciated! Googling mainly yields temperature test results for both products.

I found FluidXP to have a slight performance advantage. I haven't had any algae problems and I wouldn't expect it from either product. You still need to change it out once in awhile.

I've had problems with algae in fluidXP - 3-4(ish) months in actually:
http://forums.pcapex.com/extreme_coo...ot_sludge.html

I emailed fluidXP directly afterwards and they commented that using it on second-hand equipment can occasionally lead to this kind of thing. (since fliudXP is deionized water, a light mineral oil and other additives - it makes sense that algae can grow in it - regardlesss of where it is used)

I nuked the coolant with algaecide but just couldn't bring myself to put it back in the loop and used distilled water/antifreeze from then on

As AntiM said, you'll still need to change it out every once in a while too.

Have a think about the benefits of using n/c coolant versus draining and refilling

If you searched for non-conductive fluid on the forum, I bet you could find some threads where members immersed their entire system without active cooling. I remember one in particular...

Price and comparisons, i decided to use Dex-Cool + Sterilized Distilled water... No you can't buy that off the shelf at walmart... Its something i got through my university. Its the only Automotive coolant that provides corrosion protection in low temprature enviroments, according to an ASME conference study. In other words if your in the below 30 club, dex-cool is the way to go.

Ran it in my loop for 9 months, pulled it apart no algae, block is still shiny and pretty.

Fluid xp is worthless. By itself its not conductive but as soon as stuff from your water loop gets in it it becomes conductive. dont bother. just stick with the regular stuff. I am
