My theory of what I want to do is to use a left over thermal take vga water block that i have laying around and turning it into a chiller. I was thinking of getting a 80w peltier and running it at 10v with a meanwell powersupply. Do you guys think just a heatsink and fan can cool the hot side of this peltier being ran at 10v instead of the rated 15v max?

*edit*
considered peltier http://www.frozencpu.com/products/24...tml?tl=g30c105
And I was thinking of just using some old left over amd64 Heatsinks that are laying around the office and putting some bigger higher flowing fans on them.

Hi guys and gals! I've been rather busey for awhile and have not had much time for any pc modding, I'll explain in another post.

I've just been given a Panasonic CF-19 Toughbook for work (Boss clearly stated WORK ONLY!)

Right off the batt I noticed the Sprint usb 598 broadband dongle and extension sticks out like a disaster waiting to happed from the port. I've googled my butt off trying to find a right angle adapter less than 4" thats REALLY low profile comming out the lappy with a straight end for the dongle so I can use velcro or something to keep it secure.

I know the smartest thing is internal or a pc card, but they went with usb:rolleyes:

I'm lookin for the smallest profile possible to use the rear port so it's virtually part of the lappy and I forget it's there.

HELP???

It's been a long time since I've posted. Since the last time, I deployed to Iraq again, and accidentally fell and injured myself, fracturing my left hip socket, and getting evacuated back to the US for medical treatment, recovery, etc. Not really why I'm posting, though, but I AM looking to get a new laptop before I head back overseas once my injuries are fully healed and I am cleared to return to my unit.

In the meantime, the Mrs. has authorized me to look into a new laptop. The old one is still chugging along, but I kind of feel like it is starting to show its age.

The old laptop has:

Intel C2D T7-something, it's a 1.8 x 2, I dunno...
8700M GT
4GB DDR2
500GB x 2 (that I bought and installed in place of the 120GB x 2 that came with it)

The thing is, I HAVE to use the AAFES (military exchange system) card so's we can afford the laptop, without having to dig into the savings (that's going to be used for a nice vacation when I get home). If I decide not to get it, that's fine, but for now, if I do go through with the purchase, it HAS to be through the AAFES store.

The two laptops I was looking at were a Toshiba and an Asus. Since I initially looked, the Toshiba has been removed from the "sales floor" at the AAFES online site... IF it comes back, I'd like to know if there is a significant advantage to waiting for it, or if the pros on the Asus outweight the cons sufficiently to justify going ahead with it and scrapping the Toshiba from my plans.

Here's how I've been using the current laptop:

The first of the 500GB drives has been the OS drive, all programs, applications, games, and save files (music, documents, etc). The other one has some programs on it, and larger downloads. Both drives are less than 100GB free at this time.

I have three 500GB external drives (USB-powered, no need for external power plugs), that I am using: one for movies, one for TV shows, and the other for additional large downloads files.

Now for the laptops that I'd like your advice on:

The Toshiba

The Asus link I was going to include just gives the base model specs for the one I have in my cart on the AAFES site. More detailed specs:

MODEL: ASNG71GX-A2
OPERATING SYSTEM: Microsoft® Windows® 7 Home Premium (64-bit)

Intel® Quad Core™ Processor Q9000 2.00GHz

6MB L2 cache / 1066MHz FSB

6GB DDR2 SDRAM

640GB 7200 RPM SATA hard drive

Blu-ray™ DVD combo drive

17.1" WXGA+ (1440 X 900) / WUXGA (1920 X 1200) Color-Shine (glare-type)/ ASUS Splendid Video Intelligent Technology

NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 260M graphics w/ 1024MB GDDR3 VRAM

Built-in 2.0MP Webcam

Built-in Bluetooth® V2.1

802.11 b/g/n WLAN

Ok, so the main advantages I see for the Toshiba:

***the i7 CPU (newer, less likely to become obsolete before the laptop is delivered)

***the GPU might be a 250, but it carries DDR5 memory, as opposed to the 260 with DDR3 on the Asus.

The downsides of the Toshiba:

***Only space for a single drive

As for the Asus, the advantages I see:

***The ability to install TWO hard drives, much like what I have going on right now. I know it will make the Asus heavier than the Toshiba, but not that much heavier than what I have right now...

*** the "OC-ability" for whenever I decide to run those very CPU & GPU-intensive programs (GAME ON, d00dz!!!)

The downsides:

*** the C2Q might still be able to shock and awe me as far as its raw speed, compared to what I'm using, but I see it getting obsolete much sooner than the i7.

Finally, the Asus is being offered for ...$1,795.00
The Toshiba WAS ....$1,399.00

Thoughts?...

It's been a long time since i bought a new graphic card , anyway i could get the Power Colors right now the guy got it in stock or wait till tomorow for the MSI one or wait until monday or tuesday for the Sapphire wich i think would be the best of the three...

1- Is there any differences from the 3 cards at stock speed?

2- what about overclocking?

3- i know years ago , Power Colors add slower memory's on the graphic card to give a better price range but what about today is it the same thing?
because all 3 of them have DDR3 & same speed on the core & memory's

Thx!
