Default Strange Noises from New LCD

I got a new Viewsonic VG2021m 20.1' LCD for $230 from Buy.com several weeksa go.

It looks great, but I keep on hearing strange noises that I think are coming from the monitor. Occasionally, I'll hear something that sounds like a fly hitting the back of the monitor, but there are no bugs behind it.

A minute ago, I heard something that had a tune similar to "ump ump de ump bump ump ump de ump bump" except it was an "electronic noise".

The monitor does have built in speakers which could be the cause, but they aren't plugged in.

it is probably the power supply or inverter. it would have to be one of those two things unless it actually is coming from the speakers. if it flickers it would definately be the backlight inverter so it would most likely be the powersupply. if you hear high pitched pulses it usually means the power supply is having an issue. is it abnormaly warm? the genesis display chip (if used) runs hotter than the powersupply normaly.

I'll second that.

The troubleshooting is exact for lack of a better word Carbon. But I have to ask why did you buy a viewsonic? Nothing but problems. Relatively ok when they work, but generally...well lets just say not so good. Also why not go wide screen? or higher resolution? only a few dollars more.

A good example:

SCEPTRE X20G-Naga III Black 20.1" 8ms Widescreen HD Ready LCD Monitor Built in Speakers - Retail at Newegg.com

Just a though, but personally I'd return the thing and don't look back!

As atest, plug the speakers in and see of you still hear the noise. Could be picking up some stray RF and spitting it out through the speakers. Is there a menu setting to mute them?
