Default New LCD could look better?

I just bought an Acer AL1916W and have an Radeon 9800 Pro card.

I went to ATI and downloaded the newest Catalyst control center and drivers.

Drivers are dated 8/2/2006 and they are version 8.282.0.0

I used to have a 21" CRT.

All of a sudden load times on web sites and games seems to take forever (not sure if that has anything to do with the LCD) and photos look pixely (not a word). I was hoping the screen would be much crisper then it is.

Maybe I have to tweak it a bit but I'm not sure how.

Considering I'd like to use Photoshop I'd better make sure everything is adjusted correctly.

Thanx

What resolution is it running? I have that TFT, when I first bought mine, it defaulted to 1280x1024, can't remember how I got it to run at its native 1440x900.

Try that, set the refresh rate to 60Hz, hit the auto config button on the TFT and see if that helps

I have it set to 1440 x 900.

Just in case it matters I also have it connected via DVI not D-sub and it doesn't seem to auto adjust.

It is also set to 60hz

I have Gamma set to 1.00
Brightness at 0
Contrast 100

try changing contrast to 50 and see what happens from there.. also the monitor is plug in play correct?
Also make sure to completely replace your drivers with the newest ones.. I remember when I got my lcd everything was kinda fuzzy.. I updated my drivers but they didnt update correctly.. I updated the drivers for my 9800 pro again and everything looked clear as day.

I updated them the other day.

Date: 8/2/06
Version: 8.282.0.0

That should be it

It's ok anyway. I just bought an X800GTO2 for $100 at Newegg.

Hmm.. I recently got that monitor too (using now). I have mine at factory defaults running the x850 rig w/ official Cats 6.1, set resolution to 1440x900 in Display Properties>Settings. Monitor looks great as it came 100 brightness/ 80 contrast, but I notice the auto-adjust button doesn't seem to do anything (as you mentioned). Also, trying to update from the auto-detected "plug&play monitor" driver to Acer's won't work. It just says something along the line of: 'the current driver is newer or better, no driver updated' and thats fine with me because I just wanted to see if Acer's was somehow special. Also worth noting though, -I noticed cleartype was disabled when I switched from the old D-Sub LCD to this w/ DVI interface (i only checked after looking at this thread). I re-enabled it and things look a deal cleaner again.

i think most lcd's dont auto adjust with DVI its somthing that is only really needed when using the normal VGA cable.
