Default Sharpness over SVideo?

Is there any way to get decent picture quality on an XGA LCD via SVideo. I bought a 15" LCD TV today and it didnt come with a DSUB cable and i dont know where i would get one around here, and i was planning on hooking it up via SVideo anyway, but i cant get the picture very good. Theres either a big gap around the picture, or if i put it on overscan it, well, overscans... And its pretty damn blurry even with sharpness all the way up in the computer settings. Its a Magnavox 15MF400T hooked up to a PCI Radeon 9200. Would a better quality SVideo cable help at all. Its not even the sharpness all that much, its more just getting the picture to fit the screen exactly. Also, what should the refresh rate be set to?

IMO, I don't think a different S-video cable would help w/ this problem. If it was the cable there would probably be lines running through the picture or the picture would have waves going through it. I would mess around w/ the resolution settings on the card as well as the lcd to see if you can find a better result. You might also be able to resize the screen through the graphics options. The LCD's recommended refresh rate should be listed somewhere in the manual or on the box. If you can possibly get a d-sub cable(normal 15 pin monitor cable) I would suggest trying that as well.

The refresh rate listed in the monitor doesnt make any difference really, this is probably as good as it gets with SVideo. Well crap, now i gotta buy a new video card since im outa actual monitor ports. Ah well, maybe now oblivion will run decently...

The tv should be detected as a monitor with the vga cable. That will make set up very easy. You might just have to play with the resolution but that's about it.
