I think my video card is on it's last legs. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I have an Abit NF-7s mobo, 2500 Athlon (barton core) overclocked to 2.2GHz, been stable for years. 1Gig OCZ3500 RAM (2x512) and a Radeon 9800 pro flashed to xt speed, running at those stock speeds. I have a good cooler on the 9800 card.

I got my new monitor today, a Hanns-G JW199d, and all was well for a while. I had it as my primary using the DVI cables, and my trusty Samsung 710N as my Dsub second monitor. I ran 3d mark 5, and the computer locked up. I can see the BIOS and Splash screens on both monitors, but it will not boot with a monitor (either one, I used an adapter on the samsung) plugged in the DVI port. It will not boot with either monitor hooked up as the only monitor or dual using the DVI port on the card.

I have the Hanns-g up right now no problems using the DSUB connection. I have never heard of a monitor preventing a computer from booting, but I have heard of a video card doing it. So I think I have lost the DVI part of my card.

Any ideas? I am planning on upgrading the whole computer soon, but I was just wondering if the monitor could be bad.

If it will last a few more months, I can live with a single display, then this computer goes to the folding farm.

For whatever it's worth, I think it's probably your card.

I had the same problrm with the same card.
9800pro, good cooler, reliable.

Second display, and BAM..... dead card.
Everything was fine for about two days, and suddenly all I got was the splash screen and then..... nada.

**no matter what you do..... do not replace your 9800 with an x1600pro.....**
