Default Problems with my moniter.

Hello, I'm currently having problems with my moniter and it's starting to become annoying. Once in a few start ups, the screen becomes fuzzy and static starts to appear whenever I try to play a video or run a game. Sometimes, the screen just scrambles and locks up.

Here's a picture of what I'm experiencing: http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...creenError.jpg

Also: There's nothing around my computer that could be contributing to the problem.

Have you tried new drivers? If it is only every frew startups, then it might be a problem with an installed program or drivers. If you have already looked at that, then your monitor might be bad. Do you have another that you can hook up your system to? If you hook it up to another monitor and it is fine, then you found your problem. Monitors can be quite tricky to work on, especially if you don't know what you are doing. If the monitor is the problem, you are probably going to have to replace it. I don't know of anything you could try to fix it...

I bought this moniter at BestBuy for around $70. It was on the self and looked a bit old(dusty, like it had been just sitting around). I don't know if it was used or not but I'll check and see if there's still a warranty on it. I've had it for about 4 months and it started acting up a week ago, although I haven't loaded up any new programs in quite some time.

Thanks for the help.

That monitor looks kinda old..maybe it is dying out.

Can you try it on another computer to make sure that is not the problem?

EDIT: OOPS..When I started this reply there were no others, seems like we were all thinking along the same lines though.

You are losing Horizontal Sync. Probably the monitor is the issue. Best to try it on another system, as $Solid$ suggests.

Not worth repairing if it is the monitor, unless you have a local TV repair shop that does good work for a good price.

Try another monitor on computer if available. If it is the monitor most 15-17 crt monitors can be bought used for 20-40 dollars at thrift or computer enthusiast stores.Heck I find them all the time thrown out working.Jo

4 months old and it's crapping out..I would be heading to the Best Buy managers office if the sales people give you any grief...even the warranty has expired (IF the monitor is the real problem)

If they choose to do nothing about the situation after stating you case nicely, then warn them there will be repercussions of you telling your friends, family, and posting your story on as many sites as you can join!

If they laugh you off..so be it, just make sure you follow through , print copies of threads like this with stats of how many times it has been viewed and return to that store and say "I told you so!" and give it to the manager.

It may not get you anywhere...but at least you will have warned others and can get satisfaction in that way.

In fact, you might want to print this thread and take it with you just in case...a picture is worth a thousand words when it comes to dealing with large companies...they do not want to loose money, and will do everything they can, even if it hurts there rep to a small degree to "Not give in"

In fact, I remember specifically one time at a Best Buy, there was some lady that came screaming into the parking lot on how they did not want to honor a warrranty or something, and everyone was watching her..it DOES make a difference, maybe not immediately, it does stick with you next time you are considering making a purchase with them, or if a friend asks your opinion.

You will have make it your personal goal to see that everyone knows about how "Fairly" you are treated, be it a good or bad outcome..its up to them how they want to play.

I would agree with everone on this one. Try a diff monitor and see if the same thing happens. Then take it back to Best Con and raise some hell.

Ok, thanks for all of the help guys. I guess I'm going moniter shopping tomorrow. I think I can pick up a cheap new CRT for around $50 or less. I don't enjoy flat screens as much as I used to.
