Default Help!! Rewiring Monitor VGA Cable

So I remembered that I had a 17" monitor from my college days (about 8-9 yrs ago) sitting in my basement. I wanted to try out some dual monitor fun so I went to take a look at it. It's in fine condition (after cleaning it) except for one thing . . . my cat somehow chewed the pins out of the D-Type 15 pin connector.

I've removed the connector and written down the color of the wires that went to each pin, but I'm stumped by one thing. Some of my wires have shielding around them (I'll call them "dual"). I know that the whole main cable has shielding around it, but, for example, the blue, grey and red wires have an outer insulation, then some "shielding" wire then another insulated wire at the core. When I took apart the connector, all of the black wires (grounds, I'd assume, were wired together in one mass so I couldn't differentiate what was what.

Here's the pinouts (color-wise) that I wrote down. Anyone who could help, I'd truly be indebted to.

1) Red
2) White
3) Blue
4) Black
5) Black
6) Black
7) Black
8) Black
9) Black
10) Black
11) Black
12) Orange
13) White
14) Yellow
15) Green

The wires I have available are the following:

Gray w/ White core (one of the "dual" wires I mentioned above)
Blue w/ Lt Blue core (ditto)
Red w/ Pink core (ditto)
Orange
Green
White
Black
Yellow

Could anyone help me figure out how to connect the new 15 pin connector I just picked up from RS?

TIA!! (Big TIME)

I can only tell you its a sure way to drive yourself crazy. What is the make and model of your monitor? I may have a complete cable assembly in my massive pile of recycled junk. Does the inside end have a connector? That makes life easy.

The colors vary, Depending on where you cut the cord you can probably trace the wire back to the pins.

Thank you for the reply, but I don't really know how to read that/figure out what color the Sense 0,1,2 or 3 are or what their grounds would be.

Is there any way you could read the info I've got so far and translate the pinout chart?

If it's too much a pain in the butt, I understand, I just don't want to fry this monitor.

Also, I'm wondering whether I can just connect all the "dual" cables' non-insulated wiring together as a ground and then run that ground, with individual wires, to the "Black" pins on the Connector.

EDIT: Never mind. I think I figured it out with the addtional links you added, Nerdz.

THANK YOU!!!

Lemme get this straight... are you trying to repair the cable? Or the connector that's actually in the monitor? Seems like you could just as easily replace the cable altogether if that's all it is.

Just trying to clarify...

repairing cable that has been "chewed up" connector. I don't know if I could replace the cable because it doesn't come out of the back of the monitor. I'd have to open up the monitor, I think.

I already have the 15 pin D-type and I've figured out the pinouts, so I'm pretty set at this point, but thank you for the input Jobi. I appreciate it.

That's just insane......

I agree with Jobistober why dont you either see if joecoin can hook you up with a cable or contact the manufacturer. I got one from sceptre and it only cost me $20 and added another three years to that monitor.

It's really up to you......fix it right or jimmy rig it.

Insane in the BRAIN. I gave it a shot and it worked NO PROBLEM. I can't really fit the wiring into the housing I bought for it, but since that connection is behind my computer, I'm not worried. Loads of Electrical tape will take care of that puppy. Now I will finally have the dual monitor setup I've been hoping for.

Thanks for all the help and contributions everyone offered!!

This also gives me more confidence for the VGA mod to my PSONE LCD screen I'm going to put in my case!!

Happy camper over here in Reading, PA!!
