So I've been doing a fresh install (I like to poke around with a system a few times before I stick to an install)
When I went to install the Intel driver package for the chipset, the screen blanked (power light on, but display switched off; looked like the backlight too).
When I turned the monitor off and on, it came back.
The same thing happened during the nVidia driver install.
I figure those are "suspect" moments, because they probably represent times the video card might be being put into odd states, but it didn't happen the first time I installed.
Instead, during the first install, the whole display had a vague green twinge and ugly banding, which was taken care of by rearranging the cables (maybe the 69-cent
DVI cable the monitor came with was loose/frayed/sucktacular)
I tried to force a resolution change manually, that didn't make the symptom appear.
I'm terrified because the monitor is new, but past the shop-return period, and from what I've heard, this manufacturer is not legendary for customer service. I'd feel a lot better if this happened to other people.
The video drivers are 163.75; the mainboard driver package doesn't have a useful version number that I can see. The
OS is Vista Ultimate 32-bit.
Setup:
Abit IP-35E (P35 chipset), E6750, 7600GS, Soyo Topaz S monitor on
DVI, Antec SP-500 (I'll assume it's not the
PSU, for once in my life

)
