Default At what speed/price will you buy a DVD-RW?

Since the speeds right now suck I'm curious to see who would buy what at which price.

If you are a 'Gotta Have It Now' person, select the speed which you would buy ASAP.

If you are a 'Budget Minded Builder' select which speed you plan on buying at what price.

I'm not concerned about the price of the drive, it's the price of the media that's holding me back.

And I'm waiting for a single standard to be agreed upon.

When DVD-RW's finally decide on a standard and become the norm, I will get one. I expect to pay less than $100 for it.

Once a standard is decided, and once they get around $100

I don't think I will ever have a need for one. However, just the thought of backing up a full 80GB drive on one or two discs, is great.

how did they make blu ray? did someone in japan finnaly make a direct emmision solid state blue laser or do they still use a pumped crystal?
the first CD burner i used wrote at 4x and this dvd burner writes to DVDs at 4x so i guess thats the speed technology must hit before i get to use one.

I remember my first CD-RW, it was a 4x1x4x HP, it was the fastest at the time. Wasted $350 on it, but made that back in profit from burning friends CD's for $10 a pop, but now I burn for 50cents if im lucky.
