Default Hitachi 7k80

Just got one of these drives and must say for the price it is pretty nice. $50.00 plus shipping from newegg.

Drive specs:
7200RPM
8MB cache
SATA 2 interface

Running it as the OS drive on my AMD rig. Windows XP pro. Windows will boot up really fast. Never timed it but one swipe of the blue progress bar, sometimes 1 and a half. That is much better than my raptors do. This is on the nvidia sata2 controller on my Asus A8NSLI deluxe board.

Benching it was nice to. HDtach: Random access 12.8ms
CPU utilization 3%
Average read 48.5 MB/s
Burst speed 221.2MB/s

Sandra gave me 50 MB/s read speed

The built in test in the nvidia sata controller gives me 215MB/s burst and 60.1 average read.

HD Speed gives 214 Burst and 61MB/s read.

Set up was a little dissapointing. Had to update my BIOS to get the drive to load windows. Seems the BIOS would label it as a CHS harddrive (not sure what that means entirely) after the BIOS update it labeled the drive as LRG and there were no problems. My friend bought one also and he could not use the legacy power connector. We thought the drive was broke and tried the sata connecto and it worked fine. I told him to update his BIOS and now he can use either power connector.

For the price it performs well. Just have to wait and see if it does not live up to it's name.... Deathstar..
