Hey Thrasher the lcd's from all electronics, can they be easily hooked up like the lcd mods for almost $100
from mod supply sites? Or do I need either an electronics degree or someone expierenced and willing to
do the wiring?
Not being sarcastic, I'd like to get an lcd but I got no electronics knowledge at all.
and at less than $20 it's tempting!
I'd almost need plug and play, well plugin atleast and software to install.

If your not confident your self, you can get somone to wire it for you. But other than that, its pretty easy. YOu just follow a diagram, and compare it with the datasheet of the LCD

And Yes, Those LCDs are as good as the ones you can get for 100bucks. Thats the whole beauty of DIY, you can get it cheaper than what other sites are charging for it.

Of course other sites have USB support, but the ones you can make your self can be hooked up via parallel port.

For software use LCD Smartie.

Ok COOL! right of the bat I can say I would rather not tackle wiring it up.
Anyone with lcd experience looking for a few bucks for an easy job?
(should I post this in trading instead?)

So is there such a serial cable that would plug into the pin-out header on my board to the female serial port on the back of my Matrix Orbital VK204-25? If so, where could I get it?

Im pretty sure so, But I think you would have to buy the chip yourself, and assemble it yourself. I could be wrong.

Its a chip that turns The serial out from your Com port into a Parallel port Connection your LCD can use

Oh I see. Actually, this thing has an actual female DB9 RS-232 Serial port on the back. But finally, after 3 hours of reading I found this: http://www.abccables.com/ca-003606.html

No thats not it. Its a chip you have to solder to a board your self.

Why would I want to solder anything when I could just use the built-in serial port? Not to mention my board has a serial port pin-out on it. Should all work pretty well. The darn shipping really jacked the price at that cable shop though.

Oh yea but I was saying if you want to use a regular parallel port LCD with the serial port you need a special chip to do it.

Ohhh, I gotcha. By the way, I just got an email from that cable shop saying they cancelled my order because the item is discontinued. Now I'm scrooged all over again.
